DEAD LAST ULTRA One loop. Every hour. On the bell. Last one in the pasture wins.

Dead Last Ultra is a backyard ultramarathon at historic Waters Farm in Sutton, Massachusetts. The rules are simple. The race is not.
Every runner has one hour to complete a 4.2 mile loop. Finish in time and you're back on the line for the next one, on the hour, every hour. Fall short and you're out. We run day into night into day until one runner is left standing, the one who finishes dead last. That's the win. Everyone else went home early.
The course is half of what makes this race. Roughly half runs through wooded trail with stretches along Lake Manchaug. The other half opens into farm pasture, past barns built at the same time this country was getting going. You'll learn the loop in daylight and meet it again in the dark, when it shows you something different. Cool late-October New England nights make for fast loops and a long, honest fight.
Waters Farm is a 1757 hilltop homestead, farmed by six generations and preserved on the National Register of Historic Places. We're proud to be the first to bring a backyard ultra to this ground.

THE FORMAT
4.2 mile loop, completed within one hour, every hour
The goal is to finish dead last. The last runner standing is the only finisher, and the winner. Everyone else records a DNF, in true backyard tradition.
The race runs until one remains, potentially 24 to 48 hours or more

Saturday is a full community festival: an open 4.2 mile run, a kids fun run, live music, food trucks, and local vendors. Bring your crew and your family. This is a weekend, not just a race.

Field is capped at 150. Registration closes September 25, 2026.
No refunds. Entries are transferable to another runner per our transfer policy.

Every starter takes home an Out to Pasture finisher shirt and a special take home token. Only the Dead Last runner takes home The Brand buckle.

THE DETAILS

Where: Waters Farm, 53 Waters Road, West Sutton, MA
Camp: Runners may set up a base camp and crew area. Overnight camping for runners and crew.
