Kings Traverse Ultra

RUN WITH THE PACK

On April 24, 2027, the trail gets a little longer, the miles get a little meaner, and the excuses get left at the start.

The Kings Traverse Ultra is a 31-mile point-to-point journey from Crowders Mountain State Park in North Carolina to Kings Mountain State Park in South Carolina—a true traverse built around one simple idea: keep moving forward. Jointly produced by Dirty Wolf Racing and Mountaineer Rumble Events, this race is equal parts trail adventure, endurance test, and stubborn refusal to quit.

There is no turning around. There is no looping back to the start. You start in North Carolina and finish in South Carolina. What happens between those two points is up to you.

Course Description

The Kings Traverse begins at Crowders Mountain State Park and heads south toward the finish at Kings Mountain State Park, covering approximately 31 miles of point-to-point trail. Instead of repeating the same section of trail, runners get one continuous journey from start to finish.

The course will be marked with ribbon and arrows, giving runners visual confirmation along the route. Pay attention to those markings and stay on course—this is a point-to-point adventure, and the finish line is waiting somewhere ahead, not behind you.

The course information provided for the event warns runners to be prepared for variable weather, including rain and fog. That means conditions can change during your day on the trail, so arrive prepared to adapt.

Aid Stations & Support

When the trail starts asking questions, the aid station is where you get your answers.

Expect basic trail-race fuel including pickles, cereal, pretzels, candy, fruit, and bacon, along with water, Tailwind, and a variety of sodas. First-aid supplies will also be available. Dirty Wolf Racing's race philosophy emphasizes well-stocked aid stations with plenty of food, drinks, and Tailwind to keep the pack moving.

If you decide you're done, tell the race staff. Don't simply disappear from the course. Your safety matters, and the race team needs to know where its runners are.

Runner Experience

This isn't designed to be a polished road race with every mile neatly packaged for you. It's a trail traverse. You run, you hike, you fuel, you adjust, and you keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Runners and walkers are welcome. The only catch is that you have to reach the finish before the 10-hour cutoff. That's an average of roughly 19:21 per mile, including all aid-station stops, so pacing and time management matter.

Trekking poles are permitted. Your bib must be worn on the front of your shirt or shorts and remain clearly visible throughout the race.

And then there's the weather. Rain? Be ready. Fog? Be ready. The forecast doesn't care about your race plan, so bring the mindset to roll with whatever the trail gives you.

Finish the 31 miles and you earn a medal. Finish the day and you get something harder to put around your neck: a story.
