RACE DESCRIPTION

Welcome to the Lonesome Pine 24 hour endurance run presented by Sun Trail Running!

This event was born from many years and miles spent running the beautiful nature trails at Scott County Park and the desire to put on a long distance timed trail event that brings together all types of trail people for one amazing day!

Not familiar with timed events? Unlike traditional fixed distance events, participants can run, jog and hike as many miles as they’d like during the time allotted. This is a great way for every type of runner to all compete together on their own terms. Maybe you’re trying to run your first ultra marathon or your 100th. Maybe you want to run a 50 miler or even a sub-24 trail 100 miler? Whatever your goals are, the Lonesome Pine 24 is the perfect venue to go for it!

As with all of our events, our commitment is to provide the highest value event possible by keeping the cost low and the focus on the runner, the trails and this great outdoor community. Your registration fee covers all the race basics as well as race swag, professional chip timing services by Nonstop Race Management, custom race awards, a fully stocked aid station at home base, post-race food and drink and a guaranteed donation back to the park to help ensure future maintenance and conservation efforts.

COURSE

The course is a 3.65mi loop with about 350ft of elevation gain. The majority of the course is wooded double track dirt trails with a little less than a mile of asphalt/park road spread across a couple of stretches. Much of the course is pretty flat and flowing non-technical trails with some small rolling hills throughout. Please note that the embedded Strava route below lists the course as shorter than it actually is.

The short lollipop course allows for constant camaraderie on the trails along with frequent access to race aid and your personal belongings as you knock out loop after loop! Stripping away many of the logistical barriers of a fixed distance event allows for runners to achieve their goals whether it’s 50k, 100k, 100 miles or more during the LP24.

Runners must complete a continuous and full loop to earn credit for those miles. Extended breaks can be taken at the start/finish aid station/parking lot. Runners are allowed to leave the park from the starting area after checking out with race officials. They are allowed to return to the starting area and begin another loop after checking in with race officials.

For the last hour of the event, 6am to 7am on Sunday morning, runners will transition over to a short 1/3 mile loop around the start/finish to allow for the maximum amount of mileage for the 24 hours.

AID STATIONS/CREW/PACERS
One fully stocked aid station at the start/finish at the Whispering Pines shelter. Dropbags will be allowed inside the pavilion for extended runner breaks. There will be ample space outside of the pavilion to set up crew canopies/tents. Pacers are allowed for the race and can begin accompanying their runner after the 12 hour mark. Runners can have as many unique pacers as they like but only ONE pacer at a time and each pacer must join their runner at the start/finish. Pacers must be on foot as this is a running race. No bikes allowed!

AWARDS

-All participants who complete at least 50k or more will receive a special race award customized with their final mileage.

-Overall winners will receive special awards!

-Anyone completing 100 miles or more is in for a treat and will receive a custom Lonesome Pine belt buckle! With this being our inaugural year, the final design will be revealed as soon as it’s available. We tend to go all out with these things so plan on it being something special!

REGISTRATION

No paper registration form. No race morning registration. Online registration only.

***NO REFUNDS OR BIB TRANSFERS***
Please understand that the race reserves the right to modify the course for matters related to runner safety and/or trail condition concerns or to cancel the race in the case of natural disaster, pandemics, park closures, city/county/state restrictions, etc. In situations like these, there will be no refund of registration fees. These types of decisions will be weighed heavily and ALL effort will be made to hold the event as planned.

50% deferral credit - February 27

Please note, the deferral credit is good for ONE year only and ONLY applies to your race registration fee. All deferrals will be notified of early registration opening up (late September) via the email address used to register this year. Deferrals must still register to be entered into the following year’s race.

In addition, please remember that this is a very small, grassroots event. The majority of race costs are paid well ahead of race weekend. We hope you understand and will register early to help us provide the best possible race experience at Scott County Park!

WAITLIST
If the race hits capacity, a waitlist will be maintained and runners will be added to the event as spots become available in the order they joined the wait list. If you do not get signed up on time, please do not despair! Instead, register like normal via ultrasignup to be added to the waitlist. When a spot opens up, waitlisters will be notified via email of their selection and will have 3 days to either accept or decline the invitation. Three weeks from race day, that window of time shortens to 24 hours. When that time is up, the invitation will be passed to the next person on the wait list. Please note that you are charged and your registration finalized ONLY if you accept the waitlist invitation. The waitlist is public and can be viewed by clicking on Waitlist on the top banner of this ultrasignup page.
