About

Salt City Trail Racing is excited to present the reboot of the much-loved Clark 6 Hour Classic, now hosted by Baltimore Woods Nature Center with an added 12 hour option for double the fun! Held on the varied yet runnable and well groomed trails of the preserve's recent 90 acre acquisition, you will be running the exact same 1.7 mile loop for the entire duration of the event while attempting to get in as many laps as you possibly can within the allotted time.

Run, walk, skip or crawl your way around for the entire 6 or 12 hours or any time less: if you feel like you can only run 1 hour you will stop after 1 hour. If you run for 1 hour and want to take a break for 4 or 10 hours and run the last hour that's fine too! However many laps you have completed by the end of the allotted time or when you decided to stop (whichever comes first) will be your finishing mileage and place. The runners with the most mileage by the end will be declared the winners!

Baltimore Woods Nature Center's incredible facilities offer runners multiple indoor and outdoor options to stay warm or take a break and provide spectators with comfortable vantage points and crew with easy access to their runners. Expect a celebratory atmosphere as the CNY trail community rings in the end of the racing season while runners put their shoulders to the grindstone one final time before enjoying a well timed recovery heading into Thanksgiving.

Speaking of gratitude, this race would not be possible without Baltimore Woods Nature Center and the Central New York Land Trust. These organizations provide critical nature education and protect the natural areas that trail runners depend upon. Runner donations made during registration will be split between them and matched by SCTR up to $500. More information about these organizations including volunteering and membership can be found at https://baltimorewoods.org and https://www.cnylandtrust.org.

Course Map

The course follows the Meadow, Bluebird, and Rim Trails in a clockwise loop consisting of a combination of rolling double track and winding single track through open fields, forests, and around a former quarry. Each loop returns runners to the Interpretive Center where spectators can cheer from Adirondack chairs on the porch overlooking the course and runners can warm up at the outdoor pavilion's stone fireplace and refuel at the aid station or from their own personal aid stations.

Race Details

Aid station offerings will include water, Skratch, bananas, pickles, PB&Js, potato chips, pretzels, Oreos, and candy. A limited selection of hot foods (e.g., salt potatoes, quesadillas, broth, etc.) will be available for 12 hour runners after 4pm. Inside the lodge, hot soup, bread, coffee, hot cider, cocoa, and other goodies await finishers, crew, and spectators.

All runners will receive a pair of highly coveted SCTR socks and and all finishers will receive a limited edition race branded buff. Top finishers for each distance in each gender division receive winners beanies to be worn with pride throughout the cold months ahead.

Pacers are permitted in the second half of the 12-hour event (no 6-hour pacers allowed). 12-hour runners may have up to three different pacers but may only be accompanied on course by one pacer at any given time. Pacers must register using the pacer option on the Volunteer signup page and must check in and receive a pacer bib to be worn on course.
