Mystery Miles: A Dice Run

How far are you running?

We know where you start. We know where you finish.

We just don’t know how many laps you’ll have to run to get there.

Dirty Soles Adventures presents Mystery Miles: A Dice Run, a trail race where the course is known, the finish line is known, and your actual race distance remains a mystery until moments before the start.

The race takes place on a mile-ish trail loop at Buck Spring Park. Every runner is guaranteed one lap. Then, approximately 30 seconds before the start, the Race Director will roll two four-sided dice (2d4).

Whatever the dice say gets added to that first lap.

Race distance = 1 lap + 2d4.

Roll "snake-eyes"? You’re running three laps.

Roll an 8? Congratulations. You’ve got nine.

That means your race could end up somewhere around 3 miles-ish to 9 miles-ish — roughly 5K-ish to 15K-ish — depending on both the roll and the final measured loop distance.

There are no separate distance options and no choosing the short race on race morning. Everyone registers for the same event, everyone gets the same roll, and everyone discovers the day's challenge at the same time.

This is a trail race, so forget about perfectly measured road-race distances. Expect natural surfaces, changing terrain, roots, gravel, dirt, hills, and whatever else Buck Spring Park decides to contribute that day.
