Thunder Run 2027

The Thunder Run is more than an endurance event. It's a test of grit, determination, and shared purpose. Born from the spirit of the GWOT 100 and inspired by the 15-year legacy of the Taji 100, The Thunder Run brings together ultrarunners, ruckers, veterans, and everyday athletes willing to push beyond their perceived limits in honor of those who served during the Global War on Terror.

This isn't a race defined by a finish-line distance. It's an opportunity to discover just how far you can go when the clock is running, the miles are adding up, and the only thing standing between you and your next personal breakthrough is your willingness to keep moving.

On February 6, 2027, athletes will gather at the Land Heritage Institute in San Antonio, Texas, for an unforgettable timed endurance challenge. Participants will navigate a 4.1-mile loop through the beautiful trail system, surrounded by the rugged natural landscape of South Texas. With 6-hour, 12-hour, and 24-hour individual events, plus a 24-hour relay option, there's a challenge for every level of endurance athlete.

Whether you're attempting your first ultramarathon, chasing a new distance PR, or joining teammates to see how many miles you can collectively cover, the objective is simple: keep moving, complete as many loops as possible, and discover what you're capable of. There is no predetermined distance to conquer—only the distance you're willing to earn.

But the miles are only part of the story. The Thunder Run is built around community, sacrifice, and the belief that doing hard things together makes us stronger. Throughout the event, athletes will experience the physical demands, mental battles, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments that define endurance sports.

The looped course creates an atmosphere where participants continually cross paths, encourage one another, and share in the collective experience. For those taking on the full 24 hours, the challenge extends through the darkness of night and into the sunrise, where determination becomes more important than pace. Whether you run, walk, or ruck, every lap is an opportunity to push your boundaries while honoring something bigger than yourself.

Every mile has meaning. Every participant makes a difference. The Thunder Run proudly supports Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB), with 100% of event proceeds benefiting programs that enrich veterans' lives through fitness, community, and connection. This event welcomes veterans and civilians alike, united by a shared commitment to show up, embrace discomfort, and finish stronger than they started.

Whether you have six hours, twelve hours, or an entire day to give, The Thunder Run isn't about how far someone else can go. It's about finding out how far YOU can go.

One course. One community. One mission. How far will you go?

Event Timing & Tracking

At The Thunder Run, every mile is earned, and every loop tells a story. Throughout the event, participants will use a unique patch system to track their progress on the 4.1-mile course. After completing each loop, athletes will earn a patch to mark another lap completed and another challenge overcome.

As the hours pass and the miles accumulate, these patches become more than a way to track distance. They become a visible representation of your grit, perseverance, and determination. Whether you're competing in the 6-hour, 12-hour, or 24-hour event, or contributing to a relay team, every patch represents 4.1 miles earned through effort.

Team Rules for Relay

• Only one team member may be on course at any time.

• The active runner must finish their loop, check in, and place their patch before the next
runner can depart.

• Order of runners may change at any time.

• All exchanges must happen only in the start area.

• Rule violations result in a warning, then potential DQ.
