About the Race
The High Plains Half Marathon is more than a race—it is a run through the wide-open character of the Texas High Plains.
With Lake Fryer serving as the heart of the event and the start and finish of the race, runners leave the lake behind and head into a landscape defined by open country, endless skies, and miles of road stretching toward the horizon.
The course follows scenic County Road U, carrying runners over rolling pastures and through the rugged terrain of the High Plains, where towering mesas rise above the surrounding countryside. Along the way, runners experience the sights that make this corner of Texas unmistakable: endless mesas, cattle grazing beyond the fence line, windmills turning against the sky, sweeping ranchland, flocks of turkey moving across the landscape and the winding beauty of Wolf Creek.
It is a course built around a sense of place.
Here, the road rolls with the land. The horizon seems endless. The wind, elevation, and open country become part of the challenge. And with every mile, runners experience a landscape that feels both rugged and remarkably peaceful.
The High Plains Half Marathon celebrates the character of this region—the land, the people, and the determination it takes to thrive in a place where distances are measured in horizons.
Whether chasing a personal best or simply taking in the view, runners will leave with something more than a finish time. They'll leave having experienced a race that could only happen here.
