Frozen Gnome

Veteran Acres

Crystal Lake, IL 50K, 10K

This Event Took Place Sat. Jan 11, 2014

We have gotten approval for this race. Approval came in November 19th at 9 pm. We waited until now to get race permit approval so that there would less likely be surprises for runners and us.

We will be following COVID-19 precautions. Please only sign up for the race if you are prepared to follow them..

50k- $85.00
10k- $50.00

We have a very strict permit with COVID-19. We can not squeeze extra people in.

You can still sign up to volunteer! NEED VOLUNTEERS ON BOTH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

50k Saturday, 10k is on Sunday to keep gatherings small

There’s no race like Gnome! VERY CHALLENGING, TRIPLE BLACK DIAMOND rated, fun and frosty run in Crystal Lake on January 9th & 10th, 2021. The Frozen Gnome's beautiful single-track course will take runners through the winter wonderland of Veteran Acres and Sterne’s Woods. Folks may choose either the 50K ultra run or the 10K race for speedsters. Gnome doubt about it, both courses will be tough.

The course is a 10k loop that will be repeated 5 times by the 50k runners. Enjoy butt slide hill, hot food, coffee, heat, and volunteers at the Gnome Depot Aid Station. The Frozen Gnome is everything you could wish for from a winter wonderland race!

WAVE START, we will email you your start time

We waited until the very last minute to open registration so we could be most informed on rules for what is current in COVID-19 gatherings.

Our race has been approved as long as we follow COVID-19 guidelines. If the State is Phase 3 on January 1st, without it looking like we will be switching to 4, we will have to cancel the "in person" race. We will switch the race to virtual if that happens.

----->We have the map available so you can run the actual race course virtually.

We will make the call on January 1st, 2021

VIRTUAL OPTION: We will also offer a virtual option that you can run any day (except January 9 or 10th) on the actual race course. You can pick up the virtual race bib at the OMR Trailhead in Crystal Lake, it is just a couple miles from the race course. You can also pick up your finisher medal & race swag.

You can find our COVID-19 safety guidelines listed on our website.

Finisher Swag

Registration is limited. 2021 race swag is a custom Ruffneck Finisher stadium scarf. All finishers get a Finisher medal

Finisher award for all 50k & 10k runners
*Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall Male and Female
*Age Group awards for 1st place in Age Group

Frozen Gnome Testimonial

'I just wanted to say thank you very much for putting on such an awesome event today! I had found it ...(online)... and my friend, John D'Agostino gave me a little more info, and said how cool all of the trail runs and participants are. He was so right! This was my first, and I loved it! I only did the 10K, but the course was full of beautiful scenery, was well marked and challenging. Every single volunteer was incredibly helpful and friendly. The camaraderie amongst the runners is like nothing I've experienced before. The emails beforehand with info were thorough and a big help. The weather updates and tips too were great! Thank you for all you did to prepare for today and make it such a smooth running event. Hopefully you all stayed warm! ~Michelle Mankiewicz, 2015 participant
