The 9-mile La Luz Trail Run was selected in 2001 as one the "12 Most Grueling Trail Races in North America" by Trail Runner Magazine.
The course consists of 1.8 miles of paved road and 7.2 miles of dirt single track trail with a 12% grade. It starts in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque and finishes at Sandia Crest at an altitude of 10,678' - over 4,000' of elevation gain.
To be an Official Finisher, runners must complete the course in 5 hours or less. Cut-off time is 12:00 noon. Only Official Finishers receive a race time and Finisher's T-shirt.
The La Luz Trail Run is sponsored by Albuquerque Road Runners Club. Entry fee is $45 for ARR Club Members and $55 for Non-Club Members. For more details about the La Luz Trail Run, please visit the Albuquerque Road Runners website.
Entry into the La Luz Trail Run is determined by a lottery system. There are 400 slots available. This limit is mandated by the United States Forest Service, since much of the race is run through National Forest that has been designated as a Wilderness Area.

The lottery process is open from June 15th through June 30th. After the lottery has closed ultrasignup.com will randomly draw all names and compile a list. The first 400 names selected, are charged, and added into the race.
Those not selected in the first 400 will be placed on a waiting list in the same order as their names were randomly drawn. As cancellations are received from the original list of 400 entrants, persons from the waiting list (in order) will then be offered the opportunity to enter the race, if accepted, they will then be charged and added into the race. You will not be charged until you are selected AND notified by email.
