About the event
"The Crucible 12 Hour Fat Ass" is a 12 Hour “road" race run around the 1.06 mile loop at the Arbors at Eagles Brook in Locust Grove, GA. There are four small hills on the course with only 19ft of elevation gain per mile. The Arbors is where I live and where I do 99% of my training. The “Crucible” is the name that I have affectionately given this race course as it is where a lot of dross “junk" has been burned away from me physically, spiritually, and emotionally. I started RTF “Running Totally Free” UltraRunning to celebrate the freedom that I've found from drinking through UltraRunning and my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. At the running of this race on April 2nd I will be celebrating 9 3/4 months of sobriety. To go along with the name of our group I’ve decided to run all of my races as “Fat Asses” or “Totally Free”.
As a Homeschool family money is a premium. As much as I would like to run a whole bunch of the cool races we just don’t have the money in our budget. That being said Team RTF has decided to put on some of our own races starting with "The Crucible 12 Hour Fat Ass”. We figure there are probably a lot of other running families out there in our financial situation so we've decided to host an event for runners who are trying to live on a budget but who also love to race. If this race goes well we plan on it being the first of many.
There will one aid stations on the course at the neighborhood pavilion where restrooms will be available. This is a self supported race that being said each runner will be asked to bring something to share with the other runners such as ice, gels, water, cups, etc. I will be contacting the running participants with specifics. At the neighborhood pavilion you will be able to set up tables and chairs. I will have a canopy and tables set up at the aid station. The use of a pacer will be only be allowed after mile 31.
Each runner and his/her family/crew is limited to one vehicle. Parking will be assigned at the pre race meeting. On street parking is not allowed for this event. This is a rain or shine event. My 12 year old son Noah and my 8 year old daughter Abby will be manning the aid station. My children and I will be cleaning the bathrooms before and after the race. I will be taking a donation on race day for my children for their efforts in cleaning the bathrooms and working the aid station
I’m currently working on very fun 2 mile trail loop in the woods adjacent to my home to run “The Crucible 24 Hour” Fat Ass. I’m looking to host that event in December of 2016 to celebrate a year a sobriety but will probably host a 50K in the summer when the “Crucible Trail" is complete.
"The Crucible 12 Hour Fat Ass" is non swag event that being said I may have specially designed shirts and other swag that can be ordered on-line post race if you would like to order a souvenir. Registration, parking assignments, and the pre race meeting will take place at the Arbors Pavilion at 6am. The race will commence at 7am. No Shows will be excluded from future RTF UltraRunning Races.
