Cancelled Event



Hello runners, we are saddened to announce that we will not be able to host this event in 2020. As trail runners and weekend warriors ourselves, we wanted nothing more than to spend hours with you on the beautiful trails of North Chagrin Reservation. We were informed yesterday that it is very unlikely that a permit can be obtained for October 10 race. Even with social distancing and covid19 plans in place, no permit could be obtained. Going forward, we will continue our planning and bring back CtC in 2021.

Below is our plan of action to cap off the year and continue into 2021:
- Group Training Runs on the trails (sign up for alerts here:
- Pursue a Spring trail kick-off race with a 10k option
- Continue the annual Conquer the Castle tradition with a Sept/Oct race in 2021

All current attendees will be eligible for a deferment to 2021 or 2022 and no fees for transferring race entry. We appreciate all of you who wanted to hit the trails with us and we look forward to seeing you soon.

7/8/2020 Update

Hello runners,

We are still actively planning the 2020 event. We will have a major update on August 3 regarding the race and if we are able to host it this year. We are having a lot of trouble with the permit and although the paperwork has been submitted for months, we have not heard received approval. We are actively working on this. In the event of a cancellation, we will very likely not being doing any virtual option and will being doing an unofficial trail celebration run on the same weekend. This will not be an official event but rather a small group of us will go to the course and run the course and you may do so at your leisure. To note, we will allow 100% deferrals or transfers for all participants to 2021 or 2022 but no refunds will be issued. With all questions, contact the planning team at

Important Details

Follow our Facebook Page and all runners will receive a detailed e-booklet with details regarding the race.

Packet Pickup:
Packet pickup will be at the start/finish area at AB Williams Memorial Woods/Forest Picnic Area. Pick up your packet in-person or send a photo of your driver’s license with the responsible party. We are organizaing a Thursday/Friday pick up and will announce when finalized.

Changing Distances:
The race will consist of 4 different distances. The loop is a 25K loop. Distances are 5k, 25K, 50K and 100K. If you want to change distances from what you registered, you must do so before September 17. No race day changes. If you need to change distances, please contact the race director at

The race will be RFID timed.

There are just 2 cutoffs. All runners must have started their final lap before 4pm. No exceptions. The race ends at 8 pm. No exceptions. If you have not made it back to the start/ finish by 8pm, it is a DNF.
The race will proceed, regardless of weather. If there is inclement weather, it is up to each runner to decide if they will continue/finish the race. We may have sloppy trails, rain, snow, etc. You should know what you need for the conditions present, and plan accordingly. Use common sense and take care of yourself. Know what you can handle.

To earn a buckle for the 50K, you must complete the race in 7 hours or less. To earn a buckle for the 100K, you must finish the race in 15 hours or less.

Drop Bags:
We will have an area set aside for drop bags at the start/finish and other locations (new for 2020 covid plan). Please have your name clearly marked on your drop bag.

2020 COVID-19 Update

We are excited to launch the 2020 Conquer the Castle! We have submitted necessary paperwork and the date is slated for October 10th but due to the parks current restrictions on issuing permits, we are still working on the finer details behind the scenes. In the event of a date change, cancellation, or other factors, all participants will receive a 100% deferral to 2021 or 2022. Due to costs associated with refunds and early planning of the race, we cannot issue refunds. Email with all of you questions and concerns.


Schedule of Events
Saturday, October 10, 2020
- 4am: Early send off for 100k and 50k runners*
- 4:30am: Packet pick up and registration opens
- 5am: 100k starts
- 6am: 50k begins
- 7am: 25k begins
- 8am: 5k begins
- 1pm: 100k food stop opens
- 4pm: must start last loop for 100k
- 8pm: Awards and cook out
*Starting in the 4am Early Send Off voids you from Age Group and Overall Awards but not the race.
