Back and starting a second decade!
We are BACK for 2021 and looking forward to meeting runners new to the Hatcher Pass life as well as welcoming back you seasoned Passers!
A little about the race
Well, if you haven't been here before you are in for a treat. Hatcher Pass is one of the most scenic areas in this region and draws in hikers, runners, bikers, and sightseers throughout the year. Hatcher Pass Marathon takes place shortly after the gates through the Pass are opened to the public after being locked all winter due to immense snowfall. In the winter, it's an outdoor enthusiasts playground, but the summers? The summers are the true spice of life in the area. Hatcher Pass is THE place to be from July through September!
Local time: 1:47 AM
This race is a tad longer than 26.2 miles (more like 27ish). The first 25 miles are uphill. Some areas are more gradual than others and some areas come complete with switchbacks. The last 1+ mile is downhill. Not lazy downhill. Downhill downhill that will test the most finely sculpted runners legs out there. Intense is not too light of a word.
We support ALL runners on this course no matter the experience or skill level with running. Marathoners and relay teams alike rise to the challenge of Hatcher Pass and live to tell!
