Welcome to the Sacfit Marathon Training Program! If you are interested in training for your first marathon or looking to qualify for Boston or achieve a certain time goal (sub-4 hour maybe?), then you've come to the right place!
Since our start in 2006, Sacfit has provided marathon training to over 12,000 individuals, with members achieving a first-time finish rate of 99.8%. And for those remaining 0.2% of members, they all finished a marathon on their second try.
Why is our success rate so high? Because we provide the only training program in the region that offers two important components: First, a safe, sensible, (and fun) training program that is tailored to individual fitness levels and ages. Second, a program that includes a staff of over 50 experienced and inspirational coaches who actually train with you every step of the way. Add in post-workout seminars presented by fitness and heath practitioners who provide workout, nutrition, and injury-prevention information and tips, and you have a training program that is built for success! So whether a newer runner or walker, or an experienced runner, we the have a program just for you!
Orientation and workout is located at William Pond Park on Saturday, June 8, 2019, and starts at 8:00 a.m. If you can't make June 8, you can register in subsequent weeks, but don't wait too long! Each orientation consists of a brief overview of the program and a pace run or walk to find the perfect pace group for you! And if you already know your pace, you can skip the pace-finder step and jump right into the workout!
Sacfit is the largest training group in the Sacramento region, and has earned the distinction as the premiere running and walking club in the area. Over our 13-year history, we have trained over 12,000 individuals, helping each achieve his or her particular goal.
Our success is based on the following principles: a training program rooted in proven science, a staff of knowledgeable coaches that actually train with you, and a broad spectrum of pace groups to match ability and goals ranging from Boston qualifying speed to easy walking and everything in between. So no matter what your fitness level, pace, goal, or experience, we have the program, coaches, and teammates to complement your journey from start to finish.
Next, to help keep you informed, interested, and motivated, Sacfit provides periodic seminars and clinics related to health and fitness, has raffles after the Saturday workouts, and offers aid stations for the longer workouts that are second to none, all of which create a fun, safe, and social environment.
Add up all these elements, and Sacfit is, literally, the place where fun, fitness, and friendships come together!
The 26-week Marathon training program (the longest duration in the region) is broken up into weekly segments, each segment consisting of three mid-week workouts (Mon, Tues, and Thurs) and a Saturday morning long workout.Monday workout is a shorter duration, so this one is on your own.Tuesday and Thursday workouts are more specialized, so we offer supervised venues for both days with morning and/or evening times - the most supervised midweek workouts of any program around. Saturday morning workouts are the longest of the week and meets at William Pond Park, where we provide the region's only coach-led pace groups, with each pace group also consisting of about 10-15 teammates.
To round out the program, we also have an optional Sunday Spin Out for those interested in doing a little bicycle cross-training to speed up recovery!
Our 2019 Summer/Fall Marathon Training not only trains you for the CIM, but also provides an opportunity for beginning, intermediate, and advanced runners and walkers to participate in shorter-distance local running and walking events leading up to the CIM, including the 10-Mile Buffalo Stampede and Migration and Urban Cow Half Marathon.
Finally, all Sacfit training programs offer flexibility because you never know what the future holds! Should you decide you need to adjust your goal later in the season, you can switch to any program at no additional cost!
