About

We are excited to host the 4th annual Swiftwater 50k and Half Marathon. Last year we were challenged by numerous forest fires and had to change the course last minute. We thank all of the runners and volunteers who stuck with and helped pull off a successful run. This year the 50k will be a point-to-point starting at the original race location at the Horseshoe Bend Campground and finishing at the beautiful Susan Creek Day Use Area. The half-marathon will also be a point-to-point starting at the Mott Trail head and finishing at Susan Creek Day Use Area. See the race website for a full description and maps. These courses span several different landscapes: varying from open forest to dense PNW rainforest, flat sections to 1000ft climbs, you will run downstream next to the glorious North Umpqua River.

How hard is this Ultra?

Hard! But fun! With around 5,500 ft elevation gain and another 6,500 ft loss, do not go out to hard and pace your effort for a full day on the trail. There are several terrain changes - rocky at the start, transitioning to hilly and rooty, open and exposed to densely forested. Beautiful views and friendly faces the entire time.

Camping/Accommodations

Either get dropped off at the start at the Horseshoe Bend Campground (50k) or the Mott Trailhead (1/2 marathon) or park at the finish line at Susan Creek day use area and catch the shuttle. You can choose to stay in one of the many hotels in Roseburg, OR. If you prefer camping, we recommend the BLM managed Susan Creek Campground near the shuttle pickup at the finish line for hot showers and flush toilets. There are several other campgrounds managed by the Umpqua National Forest, as well.
