Our 2021 race

We all have our collective fingers (and toes) crossed that we'll be able to host our race in 2021, but as with everything it depends on what "phase" of reopening our county is in, and also if we can obtain all permits.
If Benton county is not in phase 4 then we'll have to start the individual races in small groups. Group size depends on which phase we're in (phase 3 allows for groups of less than 50). That may mean masks will be required, and our aid stations will almost certainly be "hands off".
In 2020 our race was ultimately cancelled because our permits were pulled. We have contacted the permitted agencies and that process is again underway.
Because of these unknowns we won't be opening registration until after the first of the year. We don't know exactly when yet but we will update Ultrasignup and the race webpage when we know. We usually open registration December 1 but because we still have all the entrants to roll over from last year and the certainty of even hosting is unknown, we'll be holding off opening back up until late winter. For now we have registration opening on Feb. 1, 2021.
If you registered for the 2020 race, you are automatically rolled over to 2021.
I'm reasonably sure we'll have a race, we just don't know exactly what it'll look like. Please be patient.
As always, thank you for choosing our race. It means a lot to us.
Fingers crossed 2021 is better for everyone.
Happy runnin, Jason

introduction

Welcome to the Badger Mountain Challenge, one of Southeastern Washington's only ultramarathons. Badger Mountain in Richland, Washington is the most popular hiking and trail running area for the Tri-Cities, and offers expansive views of the beautiful Columbia Basin. The Badger Mountain Preserve was established in 2005 to ensure that this community will always have open spaces for outdoor recreation.
The 10th annual Badger Mountain Challenge will be held on May 26 and 27, 2021.
This run offers four distances; 15k, 55k, 50 miles and 100 miles. The 100 and 50 mile races start on Friday the 26th, and the 55k and 15k start on Saturday the 27th.
This a great opportunity to be involved in a race that has a small town feel with all the support of a big race.
This will be a fun day for all, even those who aren't competitive and would just like to run or hike the course while enjoying the local ridges, awesome views and open spaces. All entrants can enjoy some post race food after the race.
We will also need volunteers in order for this race to be a success, so please volunteer if you are interested in helping! All volunteers will receive a free shirt with the race logo on it and a free entrance to a BMC 15km race in the future, or a discounted fee for the other longer distances.
Please be sure to provide an accurate email address while registering, as important email updates will be sent to the entrants as the race draws near. Remember to check your spam folder too, as batch emails often land there.
This is also a great opportunity to show your support for the health and fitness of our local community. To get more information on how you can get more involved and be a sponsor contact the race director!
Our 2021 race will now have a 15K ruck division too. Signing up in the ruck category means you will need to carry a backpack or rucksack that weighs between 20 and 30 lbs (not counting water or food used in race). No weight vests allowed. All ruck division finishers will get a custom Badger rucking patch!
