This Event Took Place Sat. Jan 13, 2018

Race info

The 2027 race will be held on January 9th! Lace up your shoes and brace yourself for the 23rd running of this winter classic.

Single Loop ‘Classic’ Race (~10.2 miles), 9:00 AM start

Hilly, cold, and windy, but stunningly beautiful loop that circles the Twin Mountain massif while winding through massive rock outcroppings and valleys. Racers will encounter long stretches of thigh-deep snow, some ice, and 2000 feet of climbing. Midway around the loop you'll find an unmanned “aid station.” We use that term loosely. It will not resupply you, so carry everything you need. Very challenging. Winners will complete the loop in around two hours (if they're lucky), others can expect to take three to five hours (or more).

Double Loop ‘Marathon’ Race (~20.5 miles), 8:00 AM start

Two loops run in the same direction (in case you missed something the first time). You'll pass the mid-loop “aid station” twice, for whatever that's worth. Actual aid, meaning a fully-stocked table with warm food, is at the halfway point (start/finish). This course is just as challenging as a 50k race, and harder in high snow years.

Cutoff Time

To continue the second loop, you must finish the first in under 3 hours and 30 minutes.

Rules and Required Gear

NOT ALLOWED: Snowshoes, skis, or other flotation devices.
ALLOWED: Ski or trekking poles, traction devices (e.g. MicroSpikes/YakTrax), grit.
MANDATORY (checked at both registration and the finish line):

  • 40 oz of fluids
  • 400 calories of food
  • Firestarter

BE PREPARED

There is no way off the loop until the finish. If you get into trouble, it might take hours to recover your body, er, rescue you.
