RACE DETAILS

Welcome to the Trinity Alps 55K & 20mile trail races. These alpine races in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest offer some of the most spectacular scenery in Northern California. With majestic views in all directions of Mt Shasta, Mt Lassen and Castle Crags all the while running on the historic Sisson-Callahan National Rec Trail. You will summit Mt Eddy (elevation 9025ft) and cross the beautiful Deadfall Lakes area. *NOTE: This event is not held in the Trinity Alps Wilderness - as no events can be held in wilderness designated areas - but just north in the majestic Klamath Mountain Range.

55K

The 55K is an out-n-back course. The race starts on the banks of Lake Siskiyou, traveling along relatively flat trails for 2.5 miles. After veering off the lake trail, you will run on a dirt road for another 2.5 miles - crossing the headwaters of the Sacramento River - and then immediately gaining the Sisson-Callahan Trail. Here the course steadily climbs for the next 9 miles to the top of Mt Eddy at an elevation of 9025ft. The views just get better as you climb. After summiting Mt Eddy you will retrace your steps to the Sisson-Callahan Trail and turn, dropping into the Deadfall Lakes area.....a breathtaking area, running along small, alpine lakes. After running amongst Ponderosa Pines and meadows, you will gain the trailhead -and the turnaround- before heading back the same way you arrived (excluding the turnoff to climb up Mt Eddy).

Total elevation gain is 8000ft and 8000ft of loss. 85% of the course is run on single track trails and 15% on dirt roads. There are 5 fully stocked aid stations.

20MILE

The 20M course is a point-to-point, starting at the Parks Creek Trailhead. You will run on Forest Service Road 17 for 1.4 miles before heading off onto the Sisson-Callahan Trail. Climbing steadily up to Deadfall Lakes, passing numerous alpine lakes, with Mt Eddy directly in front of you. You will then ascend Mt Eddy at an elevation of 9025ft. After tagging the summit of Mt Eddy, it is a whopping 6500ft descent to the finish - mostly on the Sisson-Callahan Trail - with surrounding peaks and Mt Shasta in view.

The 20M course has 3000ft of gain and 6500 ft of loss. 80% is on single track, 13% on dirt road and 7% on pavement (the first 1.4 miles of the course). There are 2 full aid stations.

BENEFICIARY

All Alpine Running events have a beneficiary. The race beneficiary of this race is the Mt Shasta High School Cross Country team. They will be manning all of the aid stations on the course.
