Hello Western Maryland Rail Trail Marathoners and Half Marathoners!!

Mike and I are looking forward to seeing everyone run well Sunday at
the fifth annual Western Maryland Rail Trail Marathon and Half
Marathon! A good size field of about 180 runners are expected to enjoy the trail
and finish their respective races on race day. This year it looks like there will be
about 100-110 half marathon runners and about 70-75 marathon runners.

Start times: The marathon starts at 7:30am and the Half Marathon
starts at 8:00am.

Remember the start/finish is located on the Western Maryland Rail
Trail just north of the C&O Bicycle Shop at 9 S Pennsylvania Ave
Hancock, MD 21750. There are two parking lots located near the
start/finish. One block east of the start/finish is the closest
parking lot which is located just south of the WMRT between Williams
St and Taney St S. A second lot is another block east located just
south of the intersection of East Main Street and Church St.

Packet Pickup and Race Day registration starts at 6:45AM near the
finish line on Sunday morning. Saturday pre-race packet pickup is planned from 4:30PM-6:00PM at the awesome Buddylou's restaurant at 11 E Main Street Hancock, MD 21750 just down the road from the race start/finish. Come get your packet and stay to have some of their great food if you like!
The second Saturday night pre-race packet pickup will take place in the lobby of the Hagerstown Holiday Inn Express located at 241 Railway Lane Hagerstown, MD 21740 from 7:30-8:00PM. This hotel is located 30 minutes from the race start/finish.

Race day weather forecast: currently we should have good temps in the 50's up to the mid-60's in the afternoon with light winds. There is a pretty good chance of some rain, but doesn't look heavy and the forecast has been improving the last couple days so hopefully that will continue to get better!

- Marathoners feel free to drop clothes off at the start/finish aid
station when reaching the half way point of the marathon if desired.

There will be 5 port-o-lets at the start/finish as well as 2 each at 2 of the aid stations on the course.

There are a total of 4 aid stations on this out and back course so
half marathoners will see the middle 3 twice; marathoners will pass
most aid stations a total of 4 times each so there will be plenty of
support along the way. We have our great volunteers from the Hancock HS baseball team
manning the aid stations as a fund raiser again this year! Altis is proud to support these
local athletes so be sure to thank them on your way by! As always our aid stations will be well stocked with water/gatorade/soda/snacks (no gels or energy bars though so bring your own if you want). If it rains we may have a little trouble keeping some of the snacks dry, but we'll do our best! Start/finish and at least two others will have a combination of bananas/oranges and PB&J sandwiches also. The middle aid station on the course will only have water and very limited snacks.

As always, full race info and more details can be found on the event
