Race Registration Status

Race registration is presently closed for the April 11th race. Race registration will be reopened when there is confidence that the race will be permitted as requested. It seems unlikely that race registration will reopen prior to February 1st.

It is recommended that runners who are interested in running this race click on the white colored WATCH button in the middle of the page. This will allow you to sign up to be sent an email when race registration reopens.

Wishing everyone great running in 2021!

The seventh edition of the race has been moved to Sunday 4/11/2021

Email announcing race date change below sent to runners on 9/25/20:

Unfortunately, COVID-19 has caused the cancellation of another race - the 2020 Western Maryland Rail Trail Marathon and Half Marathon. It would have been great to see runners enjoy the fantastic trail next month, but despite all our efforts to get the race re-approved with an updated permit, it simply wasn't meant to be. Frank and Mike are optimistic that we will see many of you have fun on the trail for the seventh edition of the race now planned for Sunday April 11, 2021.

I just visited one of the race calendars I occasionally peruse to see if I could recommend an alternate race for you super runners, but I was a little taken aback on the lack of race options out there. The good news is that there are races being conducted. The not-so-good news is that the number of races being conducted is minimal.

All WMRT registered and waitlist runners are simply remaining in the race database for the planned 2021 race which is already projected to fill. With that said some of you might already know that you can't race on April 11th next year. Registered runners can defer to a future Altis race as desired - just send me an email. I recommend waitlist registrants remain on the waitlist and not lose their spot in line for the race, but if desired waitlist registrants can send me an email and I can remove you from the waitlist.

The town of Hancock is a fantastic trail town with wonderful C&O Canal history and scenery. Frank and Mike of Altis Endurance Sports truly hope to see you run well and have fun on the trail next April.

Happy Trails,
Frank and Mike
