Monastery Trail Races (8mile/5K/1.5 mile)
Monastery Trail Races
Revolution Running is excited to be a part of the Monastery 8 mile, 5K, & 1.5 mile trail race again for the 9th year! This event is unlike any other race you'll go to.. ever! The race starts in front of the Monastery Visitor Center and then goes on the trails behind the Monastery (no one is allowed except for this race). You'll run past lakes filled with ducks and open fields with amazing views. After all the amazingness you'll run up repentance hill (a 1/4 mile challenging hill in the middle of the course). Then you'll run through more amazing trails and end up at the Visitor Center. The 8 mile race will continue behind the Monastery and you'll run amazing new trails in a canopy of trees!
All races will start at 8:30 am but feel free to go to mass before the race at 7:00 am. Awards for the 5K will be (male/ female) top 3 overall and top 3 overall masters, 10 & under, 11-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-69, 60-64, 65+. For the 8 mile race the top 3 men and women will get a prize and all other finishers will get a finishers medal. Race proceeds go to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit.
After the race take the family to visit and enjoy the Monastic Heritage Center which features a display of the history of monastism. You will also enjoy shopping in gift shop and Bonsai store as well as a stroll through the Bonsai garden. Spend some quiet time on the lakeside and peaceful grounds. Then take a stroll, hike, or bike ride along the scenic “hike and bike” trail that spread along the entire 30+ miles of the Arabia Mountain PATH hike/bike trail that begins at the Monastery.

Race Day Information
Happy race week runners! The race is this Saturday and we're crazy excited about the turn out and here is some race day and race day eve information to help planning before the race.
Local time: 10:59 PM
Packet Pickup: Friday @ The Monastery of the Holy Spirit from noon until 5pm & race day starting @ 6:45am for everyone who wants to attend church service first.
Chip Timing: We use reusable chips that should be pinned to your outer garment preferably on your hip. If you shed clothing make sure you don't shed the chip or you won't get timed. Once you finish we will have a bucket you can drop them in and we can use these at future races. This saves you and us and the charity money!
Race start: 8:30am
Parking: The parking lot in front of the Monastery store is blocked off so everyone will be directed to park in the grass in front of the church and the field in front of the store.
Portos: There will be 6 portopotties in the field across from the start line.. plan accordingly because the race starts @ 8:30am sharp.
Courses: All turns will be marked with different color flagging and every turn will be marked with an orange cone with arrows. There are 3 different races starting at the same time so pay attention to the arrows so you do not run the wrong course. Details about each course is below.
1.5 is a .75 mile out and a loop around a lake then back the exact same way you went out. The 1.5 mile will be marked with white flagging and is not very technical and not hilly. If you want to bring a stroller this would be the course for it and there is no water stops on the 1.5 mile course.
5K course is flat-ish until the start of mile 2 and then theres a slow climb until you get to the hill in the middle of the course and it's a good .25 mile climb up to the highest point of the race. Shortly after getting to the top of the hill you hit mile 2 and the last 1.1 miles is a fast downhill or flat. This will be marked with pink flagging. There is 1 water stop at the bottom of the hill just after the half way point.
8 miler is the exact same course as the 5K course until the last .1 of the 5K course when the 8 miler breaks off to the back of the Monastery. The next 5 miles is either going up or down and consists of service roads and trails. It's tough and with the heat we recommend taking some form of hydration. There will be 3 water stops, 1.5, 4ish and 7ish. The 8 miler you get a unique look at the back portion of the Monastery and all the amazing nature you may not even notice the hills, The 8 miler will be marked by orange flagging. oh yea.. it's a tad over 8 miles... 8.3.
Awards: 1.5 milers there are no awards. 8 milers we will give awards to the top 3 men and women and everyone else will get a unique finishers medal. the 5K awards are overall m/f masters m/f and top 3 m/f in these age groups: 0-10, 11-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65+.
