Chippewa 2021 50k has been approved!
However only with a field limit of 50 runners.
Therefore, we did ask for multiple stages but was unable to get it passed.
So, we decided to offer three (3) days of 50 runners each day.
Settled on the dates and time:
• Friday April 23 8:00am 50 runners (male and female)
• Saturday April 24 8:00am 50 runners (male and female)
• Sunday April 25 8:00am 50 runners (male and female)
You will have the option of selecting what day you want to run the course. Once entered will not be able to switch days.
Each day will be the same offering:
1. Marked course
2. Aid Stations (modified for Covid-19)
3. Timed results
4. Race shirts, race number and finishing prints
5. Post-race food (no soup and sandwiches this year)
This does create a challenge for overall results.
Results will need to be merged for all three days for one final result. Once this is done, overall top 3 male and top 3 female will be mailed out.
Last year registered 50k runners will have the first choice of signing up. Opens Jan 23rd at 6am.
The following week on Jan 30th registration will open for the general public.
At this point there is no 10k. If there is enough interest a possibility of hosting a 10k on May1st.

$80.00 March 16th till April 10th
Race start is 8am.
The course is out and back with two aid stations on the way out (mile 3 and mile 9, then repeat on way back) plus turn around which will have your drop bags with an aid station.
Race limit is 50 entries per race day. Total aid stations for the 50k is 5.
At this time (Jan 15th, 2021) no 10k. However if there is enough interest possibility of the 10k to be run on May 1st, 2021.
The course is a "loop" with mile markers and one aid station at mile 3. Distance is actually 6.9 miles but who likes to run a 11k race?
Race limit is 200 entries. Course uses the Circle loop trail of the center.
1. No pacing a fellow runner along the course. You can however run to and from aid stations within reason.
2. No external music playing along course from runners. (except aid stations) I am sure your music choice is an excellent one however with respect the people around you and the serenity that trail running gives, no music
3. No littering. this goes with out saying
4. Sorry no early starts for either races.
5. We love dogs however please no dogs on the course.
Top 3 overall males and females will be mailed out after the 3 days of the 50k event. .
Aid Stations will be done with Covid-19 in mind and safe guards taken place. Limited help will be at the aid stations. Most will be self served with water and food accessible.
In 2012 Christine Crawford a WI standout ultra runner ran her only Chippewa to date and set a curse record after she twisted her ankle at mile 3! Her ankle was a black and blue mess after finishing. Just have to wonder how much faster she would have been on two good feet.
In 2017 Chase Coffey from Altra Shoes ran with Adam Doe to the turnaround. Adam had hopes of a course record after running very strong previous year. However he took a stumble and twisted his knee arund mile 13 and eventually was not able to finish. Chase hit the turnaround averaging 7:30's and then was left to himself to bring it in. And bring it in he did! Dropped the hammer the second with negative splits of 6;30 on the way back.

There is abundance of small hills along both courses. Only one major uphill which is at the finish both races. I would say that there isn't much technical running with lots of rocks and roots however this isn't road running either.
You will interesting landmarks to see along the course. Run next to many lakes such as South Shattuck Lake, Dans Lake and Plummer Lake. 20 other ones to see. Run up rattlesnake hill before heading thru a field, balance your way across Three Sisters boardwalk, Kim's Crossing which is a bridge done in memory of Kim by her Dad after Kim was killed by a drunk driver, and over a 3 foot high by 100 foot long no hand bridge thru tall pines in a swamp.

I Beat .......... Shirts
The first year that Frontrunner took over the event I came up with the idea of a shirt that read I beat Matt Long on it which was given to people who finished in front of him. The shirt was not mentioned to anyone before the race until 5 mins before the start. The shirt introduction was "since I can not run today due to directing the race, I will not be able to beat my good friend Matt Long, I will then have to live vicariously thru you guys.So who ever finishes in front of Matt will receive on of this shirts." I had my fingers crossed that this would be meet with humor. It was. Matt was a fantastic sport that day. A new shirt with a new name on it is shown 5 minutes before the race. 2018 I beat ????
2017- Joe Boler
2016-Maria (Marie) Burton
2015- Doug Burton
2012 Dan Laplante
2010- Shelly Thompson
2009 - Matt Long
