Chippewa Trail Races
Chippewa 50k trail race started in 2008 with Wynn Davis as the race director and help from Matt Patten and Larry Peterson. The first year was ran in 12 inches of snow from a surprise spring snowstorm made the run memorable and extremely difficult. However the beauty of the course and the excellent leadership had people come back the next year. After two years of putting the race on Wynn found that he had to constraint on "work" and getting his running to the next level. Jeff Allen reached out to Wynn to see if Frontrunner could carry the race. For the next 8 years Randy Fulton of Frontrunner and Jeff Allen kept the race going. Randy decided to step down after the race season of 2017 to focus on some fishing. (directing over 300 races in your lifetime will do that to you).
Both races are held along the Ice Age Trail which is a single track track system and start/finish at the Chippewa Moraine . Center. Since the races are held in the spring time without the foliage being in full force you will be provided of many views of kettle lakes and glacial features.
There will be post race food available after the 10k including cookies, bananas, and chips. Starting around 12:30 pm there will soup and sandwiches.

1. No pacing a fellow runner along the course. You can however run to and from aid stations within reason.
2. No external music playing along course from runners. (except aid stations) I am sure your music choice is an excellent one however with respect the people around you and the serenity that trail running gives, no music
3. Please no littering. this goes with out saying

5. We love dogs however please no dogs on the course.
Top Three overall male and female plus the top three masters male and female will receive a framed watercolor rendition of the years logo. Will do an award presentation around 1:30 pm

The medal awards will be done on a honor base by locating your name on the age graded results as you finish and then taking the appropriate medal for your place. Due to the length of the event it is difficult to do an actual award ceremony.
Top three in each age group will receive medals starting at 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 and over
Awards will be given out once 75% of the field has finished.
There is abundance of small hills along both courses. Only one major uphill which is at the finish both races. I would say that there isn't much technical running with lots of rocks and roots however this isn't road running either.
You will interesting landmarks to see along the course. Run next to many lakes such as South Shattuck Lake, Dans Lake and Plummer Lake. 20 other ones to see. Run up rattlesnake hill before heading thru a field, balance your way across Three Sisters boardwalk, Kim's Crossing which is a bridge done in memory of Kim by her Dad after Kim was killed by a drunk driver, and over a 3 foot high by 100 foot long no hand bridge thru tall pines in a swamp.
Please look at Facebook/Chippewa for pictures of the course
Each aid stations will have PJ sandwiches, cookies, salted nut rolls, bananas, Gatorade, water, pretzels gummie worms and more. Pop will be available, Diet coke, coke and sprite.
In 2012 Christine Crawford a WI standout ultra runner ran her only Chippewa to date and set a curse record after she twisted her ankle at mile 3! Her ankle was a black and blue mess after finishing. Just have to wonder how much faster she would have been on two good feet.
In 2017 Chase Coffey from Altra Shoes ran with Adam Doe to the turnaround. Adam had hopes of a course record after running very strong previous year. However he took a stumble and twisted his knee arund mile 13 and eventually was not able to finish. Chase hit the turnaround averaging 7:30's and then was left to himself to bring it in. And bring it in he did! Dropped the hammer the second with negative splits of 6;30 on the way back.

I Beat .......... Shirts
The first year that Frontrunner took over the event I came up with the idea of a shirt that read I beat Matt Long on it which was given to people who finished in front of him. The shirt was not mentioned to anyone before the race until 5 mins before the start. The shirt introduction was "since I can not run today due to directing the race, I will not be able to beat my good friend Matt Long, I will then have to live vicariously thru you guys.So who ever finishes in front of Matt will receive on of this shirts." I had my fingers crossed that this would be meet with humor. It was. Matt was a fantastic sport that day. Since then I revile a new shirt with a new name on it every year 5 minutes before the race. 2018 I beat ????
