Inclusion and Diversity on the Trails
The Birmingham Ultra Trail Society celebrates diversity in its members and welcomes people of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, ability levels, religious affiliations (or lack thereof), and political beliefs. People of all ability levels are welcome and encouraged to participate in our events. Whether you regularly find yourself on the podium at races or if you walk from start to finish, all paces are invited to participate. People with disabilities or who are differently abled (physically or otherwise) are also encouraged to join in the fun on the trails. If we can make an accommodation for you, please email the race director: firstname.lastname@example.org. Accommodations include but are not limited to: an early start time, a late start time, a free safety runner to run with you, an early preview of the course, etc. We will not tolerate harassment, bullying, or abuse of any kind. If you can be kind and helpful to your fellow humans, then you are invited to run/walk/hike with us!
The course design for our 6th annual race will incorporate freshly blazed and beautiful single track trails of red iron ore, weaving through this transformed historic mining park; a challenge for both the new and gnarly trail runner alike!
Every 27 Mile and 13.5 Mile finisher will receive a finisher’s award! We know you all have way too many t-Shirts, so we will do something else in addition to your finisher awards! Stay tuned to fined out what.
This race will fill up quickly so register early to ensure you have your spot!
Supporting our local trail systems~it's what we do.
As always a portion of your entry fee will be donated back to the park! BUTS values the Birmingham area trails, and we hope you do too. One of our purposes is to help maintain, upkeep, and create new trails so you and your loved ones may enjoy them. Red Mountain Park has been a wonderful addition to our park family! They are assiduous collaborators, and we want to honor and support the park's future goals.
The course has a variety of single track, a little power line trail at the start, and beautiful rail bed trails that are flat and fast. Including the Start/Finish there will be 2 fully supplied and manned aid stations along the 13.5 mile route with 1 water only stop and a full aidstation at the Start/Finish for those going out on a second loop. The 27 Mile course is two loops of the 13.5 mile course. Past year's elevation chart and course map can be found in the photos. The course will change a little this year to incorporate new trails. However, the flavor of the race won't change!

8.5 hours (4:30pm) is the cutoff for both distances. The park closes at 5:00pm in the winter. That gets you, and us, out before dark. If you would like to hike the entire 13.5 miles, you could do so in plenty of time. If you would like to do the 27 mile, but think you may need just a little longer, contact the RD to discuss an early start.
