DESCRIPTION

Welcome to the inaugural "Run the Beast Marathon" trail race!

Run the Beast was created by Ricardo Ramirez and Cyndi Wyatt - Ramirez.

Ricardo always says, "We don't need to drive so far to put in miles when we have so many beautiful trails in our backyard." This is OUR community, it's where our family lives and this is where we want to share with you.

Cyndi won Hilloween on these hills in 2015. I put in 11,300 feet in 8 hrs to be the female champ. During those training days of exploring the front and back sides of this area we found such diversity in terrain and wanted to share it with you.

We started running here for the convenience and challenge but return because of the friendly community and there were miles to explore.

We have 3 distances to choose from. You'll ALL have to climb 2,271 feet elevation gain in the first 2.5 miles. It's a grind. But, be so rewarding to conquer!

8 M / 2,271 Elevation Gain (approximate)

21 M / 5,600 Elevation Gain (approximate)

28 M / 7,200 Feet Elevation Gain (approximate)

We hope you'll join us!

REFUNDS

There are NO refunds or rollovers for this race for sickness, weather, vacation etc.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

All distances start at Veterans Memorial Community Regional Park. Rolling green grass surrounds the Victory Pavilion which will house vendors, RD HQ, and start and finish line festivities.

8 Miler / 2,271 feet elevation gain: The start line will be on Santa Clara Truck Trail. In a blink you'll be off the fire road and heading up a wide, steep rugged climb for 2 miles, just keep moving or stop to take a breath, it does end... I promise. At 2.5 m you'll make a left turn and soon see a friendly face handing you water and a snack and down you'll go. High above the Valley and the city of Sylmar. The pain of the climb will be washed away as the beauty rewards you all the way to Victory Pavillion .

21 Miler / 5,600 feet of elevation gain (approximate): The start line will be on Santa Clara Truck Trail. In a blink you'll be off the fire road and heading up a wide, steep rugged climb for 2 miles, just keep moving or stop to take a breath, it does end... I promise. At mile 2.5 there will be a friendly face handing you water and directing you to a right turn. At mile 4 you'll come to Wilson Saddle Aid station (full aid station) and in another 1/2 mile you'll split to the right and start heading to Newhall Aid via the fire break trail. A volunteer will at that junction to direct you. This is a series of ups and down, such as life, before you get to the friendly folks at the Newhall aid station (Mile 9). From there you'll CLIMB THE BEAST for 4 miles on Santa Clara Truck Trail until you get back to Wilson Saddle Aid Station (mile13). Then you'll be descending to Victory Pavilion. Running down a winding fire road taking in the views of the Valley, Sylmar and our distant public lands to a fun filled finish!

28 Miler / 7,200 feet elevation gain: The start line will be on Santa Clara Truck Trail. In a blink you'll be off the fire road and heading up a wide, steep rugged climb for 2 miles, just keep moving or stop to take a breath, it does end... I promise. At 2.5 you'll make a right turn guided by a volunteer handing you water and a snack. After turning right you'll come to Wilson Saddle Aid station (mile 4) and at 4.5 you'll split to the right (volunteer making sure you make this turn)you'll start heading to Newhall aid station via the fire break trail on the right. This is a series of ups and down, such as life, sometimes referred to as "rolling fluff", before you get to the friendly folks at the Newhall aid station (Mile 9). From there you'll CLIMB THE BEAST for 4 miles up Santa Clara Truck Trail until you get back to Wilson Saddle Aid Station (mile 13). From this point you'll make a loop descending down Wilson Canyon fire road to Olive View Aid station and return up to Wilson Saddle (#3 mile 20.5) aid via single track. Back at Wilson Saddle Aid station you'll be escorted to turn right and start your 7 mile descent to Victory Pavilion. Take in the views of the Valley and Sylmar and be thankful for the challenge accomplished.
