Update #2 (July 3, 2020)
Thank you for your patience. We are currently waiting on a reply from the City of Salem to give us the okay to host this year's Angry Owl. It looks like several new folks are hoping to join us this year for the 24 and we are hopeful that we are able to make this happen. I understand that this uncertainty is not what you're hoping for in an update - especially for those of you who are making travel plans for this event. I will send out updates once I know one way or the other. The updates will be sent out via our email list, through UltraSignUp (for those registered or on the wait list), and on the Crusty Cap Facebook and Instagram pages. Thanks again for your support and patience. Emily and I hope to see you all in a few weeks.
COVID-19 UPDATE (June 1, 2020)
Friends, there are still a lot of unknowns regarding the reopening process. We hope to host Angry Owl as planned, and we think that there is a good chance of this happening! Marion County is currently in Phase 1 of the reopening process. Our understanding is that Phase 2 allows for events of up to 100 people. While we would prefer a larger event than 100, we can work within those guidelines. Our hope is that we will be beyond phase 2 and not have to limit participants, but we will follow the guidelines set before us.
We have decided to temporarily close registration for Angry Owl 2020. We are instead asking interested runners to add themselves to the wait list (no fees), and we will give runners on the wait list the first opportunity to register once we get the go-ahead from the City of Salem. Please add yourself to the wait list if you are interested; it will help us know how many runners we can expect once we're able to open things up. Adding your name to the wait list does not commit you to registering, but it gives you the opportunity to register before others if we have to limit numbers.
If we are unable to gather, then we will shift this into a virtual event for 2020 like we did for Lost in the Sauce in April. We'll be in touch with paid registrants we are forced to move in this direction.
WHAT: Angry Owl as a running party. We have 8 different races over the weekend. 24 hour, 12 hour, or 6 hour runs as well as 10 mile and 3 mile runs over a flat one mile loop. Think of these timed runs like an elementary school jog-a-thon for grown ups (snacks included).
Runners who register will for the timed runs will have that amount of time to run as many miles as they can around our one-mile loop.
Runners who register for the three or ten mile runs will complete either three or ten laps for their race.

WHERE: Bush's Pasture Park, Salem, Oregon.
We will be on the southeast end of the park by the Phillips Softball Field off of Leffelle St SE and Yew St SE.
This address will get you to the parking lot: 1050 Leffelle St SE, Salem, OR 97302.
COURSE: The loop is about a mile long and has a combination of hard packed dirt, well-maintained non-technical trail, grass, packed gravel, and a bit of asphalt. Official results will count each loop as exactly one mile. If your GPS says that you ran further, then you ran further, but our results will show one mile per loop.
TIMING: Race will be chipped timed by the expert timers at Race Northwest.
AID STATION: We will have a single aid station near the Start/Finish area stocked with water, Tailwind Nutrition Endurance Fuel, Gu Labs energy gels, fruits, salty snacks, sweet snacks, and some other goodies. You are welcome to leave some of your own foods near the finish line for easy access as you're running. In order to reduce waste, we will not be providing any cups. Bring your own bottle(s) or cup(s). They can be kept at the aid station if you'd like.
RUNNERS SETTING UP CAMP: Our start/finish location is right next to a small parking lot, so your vehicle will be accessible during the race. Runners are welcome to bring their camp chairs and coolers to the event and set them up near the start/finish area as long as they are not impeding the runners or other park-goers. Do be aware that this is public park, and that event organizers and volunteers will not be watching your belongings or be liable for anything that is lost, broken, or stolen. Runners and crew may not camp at the park on Friday night before the race.
SPECTATORS: The park is open to the public during our event, and spectators are more than welcome to come out and support. Family and friends may join runners for a lap or two throughout the event, but please do not plan on running all day with your spectator.
PACERS: Please do not plan on using a pacer. A friend or family member may join you for your last lap if you are completing one of the timed runs, but no formal pacers are permitted.
WEATHER: Be prepared for hot weather, but this is the northwest so you ought to be prepared for cold and rainy weather as well.
LIGHTS: There's a 100% chance that it'll get dark at night. We'll light the aid station area, but runners are responsible for lighting up their run with a headlamp, handheld light, or both.
CAPS: Each runner will receive a cap designed and made by Josh and Emily.
Local time: 3:24 PM
SHIRTS: None will be available.
MEDALS: None will be available.
