2018 Recap

Thanks to all who came out for the race! It was a fabulous New Years Eve celebration with over 250 of our closest friends! So many smiles, laughter and ass(phalt) kicking were seen on a December night!

We had 268 finishers prove their mettle in the cold, as temps measured 13°F at the start. We had runners from ages 4 to 80 kicking off a run-tastic resolution for the new year, all decked out in flashes of light & color. Congrats to our overall winners, Kiera Shorten & Stephen Pretak, as well as all of our age group (chocolate) winners!

As Race Director, I thank you for your patience with the glitches we had in the first year of FCRC hosting the run. We've got a solid list of ways to improve, and I'd greatly appreciate your honest feedback about the race. Take our short, 6-question survey.

As most of you heard, a wrong turn led to about a half mile shortening of the course. That also meant a much greater number of runners under the 20:19 mark, so much that we ran out of the special awards. As Race Director, I apologize for these mistakes, and any others that fell short of your expectations.

Many thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers & race partners. We couldn't do it without you!

We hope to see you again next year on December 31! Keep your eyes peeled for registration info and discounts for past participants. 2019: It's going to be EPIC!

Resolution Run Volunteer Race Director

Run out the old year, and welcome the new! One of Fort Collins’ oldest races, the Resolution Run, is back for its 34th year with a new host and new course.

Get a head start on your New Years Resolution by enjoy a family-friendly, neighborhood streets 5K starting & finishing at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Kids, strollers, dogs & walkers welcome!
Finish in under 20:19 to earn a special prize!
The race is held after sunset – we’ll provide glow sticks by the bucket, and everyone is encouraged to show off their bright clothes and lights!

The race is now owned and managed by Fort Collins Running Club, hosts of the Horsetooth Half Marathon and FireKracker 5K.

Entry fees include: unisex t-shirt (register by Dec 20 to guarantee a shirt), finisher momento, glow sticks, hot chocolate and a great time!

***Shirts are sold out! Last year the run had 150 participants, so in a fit of ambition, we ordered 250+ for this year. But y'all are an even more amazing community than our wildest dreams, and we've blown past that number as well. If pre-registrants don't come, we will offer shirts to late registrants. Sorry, and thank you all!

Location & Parking

Our Saviour's Lutheran Church (2000 S Lemay) will be our host venue, with parking in their lot.
All packet pickup will be on race day at OSLC.

Course

The Resolution Run 5K course will be a scenic, flat & fast loop course through the Parkwood neighborhood.

The roads will still be open to normal vehicle traffic during the event. Please exercise good judgement at intersections. We will have as many course marshals as possible, but be aware at all times on the course, as drivers may not be expecting runners after dark.

More Info

Running @ Night
From active.com:
Be Visible: While most of us try to blend in, night runners can’t afford to. Loud colors with reflective material to catch passing headlights is a must. Add on a few flashing strobe lights (red for your back, white for your front) and you’ll be spotted sure.

Reflective Vest: Preferably a mid-weight version, this full zip vest will make sure you are seen and help to keep your core warm. The zipper means you can adjust your internal temp, a very nice feature in the event you do get warm.

Headlamp: Not required, but a really nice to have item. It will cut through the darkness, allowing you to pick the safest path. It also helps with the visibility issue. Newer models are light weight enough to clip on to your hat or visor without much weight.

Flashing Light: Similar to what bicycle commuters use, these simple lights are a cheap and effective way to make your presence known. Remember to keep the red flashing lights on your back and the white/clear ones on the front of your body. This will help drivers and fellow pedestrians know which way you are headed long before they can actually see you.

What Not To Bring: Your Headphones. You might be the next Yo-Yo-Ma, but running at night without the help of your ears dramatically increases your chances of injury or mishap. Save the music for your commute or the odd times you can get out in the daylight.

Weather
Weather on December 31 in Fort Collins can vary greatly. The averages for December are a high of 42F and a low of 17F degrees. Dress warmly.

Staying on Course
Racers need to stay on the permitted course. Runners who shortcut will not be eligible for awards.

Unforeseeable Circumstances
In the case of unforeseeable circumstances due to weather or other extenuating circumstances that prevents the safe continuation of the race, race officials may end the race at any given time. This rule will be implemented in the most extreme cases for the safety of the runners or officials.

Local Laws
Federal, State, and County laws and ordinances must be followed at all times.
