Registration for the 2020 event will be open from January 1, 2020 until January 5, 2020, and will be a lottery if more entries are received than available spots. In the event no lottery is necessary, the race will accept applicants until full at which time a wait list will be maintained. Last year, the race was full by January 10, but over 90 percent of the wait list applicants were admitted to the race. You will not be charged a fee unless admitted to the race, and wait list applicants will have the opportunity to refuse entry to the race, although there is a time limit to accept an invitation for entry in consideration to those other individuals on the wait list. The race directors reserve the right to award up to 10 spots outside the lottery or wait list to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the San Diego 100 or trail running in general at their discretion. You have to have run a 50 mile race under 13 hours or a 100k or 100 miler from 2018 to any time prior to January 31, 2020 to qualify to run the San Diego 100. You can sign up for the race without a current qualifier; however, if you do not get a qualifier prior to the deadline, you will not be allowed to race and are subject to the refund policy, so please make sure you read all of the information on the website prior to signup. Location

The 2020 race start and finish area is located at south parking of Lake Cuyamaca Recreation Area which is located 9 miles southwest of Julian, CA on state Hwy 79. All runners are reminded the 2020 event will start at 6:00am PDT on Friday, June 5, 2020. with the completion cutoff of 32 hours ending at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 6, 2020.

Description:

The San Diego 100 course is a 90% single track mountain course which covers four recreational areas in the east county mountains of San Diego. The 2018 start and finish area are located at the south parking area of Lake Cuyamaca Recreational Area.  The course includes trails traversing sections of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), Noble Canyon, the Cuyamaca and the Anza Borrego State Parks, and Mt Laguna Recreational Areas. A very challenging course with approximately 26,000' feet of total elevation change (13k climb & 13k descent) with a 32 hour time limit. Selected runners must agree to the strictly enforced limit of one crew vehicle which includes any pacers that are helping the runner.

Qualification to Apply

As a requisite to apply, applicants must have completed a 50 mile ultra race in under 13 hours between the dates of January 1, 2018 to January 31, 2020. Applicants who have completed a 100K or a 100 mile within the time limits of that race within the last two years are also qualified to enter. Applicants are also required to perform 6 hours of trail maintenance as a volunteer or 6 hours of volunteer service at another ultra or other community service from between June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020. In lieu of trailwork, we also offer an option to donate $100 to the SURF trailfit program which services the trails of San Diego County as an alternative to trailwork. Those who do not complete the volunteer requirement or donate to Trailfit will not be allowed to participate in the race. This is STRICTLY enforced.

SOLO Division

The 2020 event will again have a Solo Division to recognize all runners who opt to run the entire race without the support of a crew or pacers with spectators only allowed to meet Solo runners at the start and finish line. All finishing Solo runners will receive special awards to include a unique belt buckle. Solo runners will have to rely on their drop bags and the aid stations for all support. Solo runners are allowed to run with other registered runners but must rely only on themselves (drop bags) and aid station volunteers throughout the entire race. No one is allowed to be a spectator or crew for Solo entrants.
