This Event Took Place Sat. Aug 24, 2019

Overview

Welcome to the Timberjack Ultramarathon and trail carnival. This race is graciously approved and permitted within the Deschutes National Forest.
Experience the Trail Running Capital of North America! Ponderosa and lodgepole pines line the course as you roll along ancient volcanoes and the Deschutes River valley. Start and finish along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway in the shadow of the majestic Mount Bachelor.

The Timberjack is certified, sanctioned, insured, and holds all applicable permits. No part of this is half-assed. A portion of the proceeds from this event is donated to the Central Oregon Trail Alliance (COTA) who build and maintain the awesome trail systems here in Bend. https://www.cotamtb.com/

Course

UTMB Qualification: The 100k is an approved UTMB qualifying race, worth 3 points. Official details at http:// www.utmbmontblanc.com

The 100k course features 6500+ ft of elevation gain and is shown below in our interactive course map. The 30k features 2000+ ft of elevation gain over a single-loop course and consists of the larger loop of the 100k course, shown to the east of the starting area. Both courses start and finish at the Wanoga Sno Park and pass the Deschutes River valley.

The course is a championship caliber, three-lap loop course in a contained, family-friendly package.

We also have a single-loop course mapped out for the future that's even tougher and more beautiful. Why have two courses? Eventually the lap course will be a backup in the event of inclement weather. But for now, we'll enjoy it as the main event. Which is good for you if you end up having to drop down mid-race.

CUTOFF for the 100k will be midnight (18 hours). There will be a mid-race cutoff at Wanoga at 24.7 and 43.5 miles based on projected finish pace (approx 17:00/mi pace) at 1:00pm and 6:20pm.

PACERS are welcomed and encouraged for the 100k on lap 3 of the big loop (miles 43 to finish). Pacers may join their runner anywhere after mile 43. Anyone starting their 3rd lap after 3:30pm will need to carry a headlamp and a space blanket with them on that final lap.

Registration

Registration will remain open until August 21th, 2019. The price increases after June 30th.

There are no qualifying standards for the 100k and NO LOTTERY. It's first come first serve to experience the Eastern Cascades and Central Oregon high desert in all it's glory.

Volunteer

Anyone good enough to volunteer with us will receive an event shirt as well as big discounts on future events. Want a free entry to next year's Timberjack? Well here you go.

We'll need help with aid stations and sweepers. Please see details by clicking the green "Volunteer" button above.

Swag and Awards

All registered participants will receive an event shirt too sweet. Shirts are gender fitted. Please register before August 7th to guarantee a shirt and proper fit.

Finisher awards to all 100k and 30k finishers. Age group awards as follows: The winner of each age group will receive a special award for both female and male, in 10 year divisions. 19-under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ for each race 100k and 30k.

Accommodations

This race is vegan and vegetarian friendly. We'll have fully-stocked aid station options including the standard fare as well as more substantial foods and vegetarian options.

This race is also carnivore friendly as we'll be providing post race meals to all competitors. Menu to be determined as we get closer.

Beer to be at the start/finish area (which is also a 100k aid station)... because this is Central Oregon. Giggity. You'll need a photo ID when you pick up your packet so we can verify age for alcohol consumption. Thanks, y'all.

Packet Pickup

Packet pickup will be at AVID Cider Co (550 SW Industrial Way, Bend, OR 97702) on Friday, Aug 23rd from 3pm to 7pm. Please plan to visit with our friends at AVID and sample their awesome menu and ciders while you kick back and rest up for the race!

If you aren't able to make it by 7pm we'll have packets at Wanoga on Saturday but please arrive early... it'll be hectic on race morning.

Elite and Overall Awards

Who will wear the 100k championship crowns of the Timberjack Queen and Timberjack King? Top 3 overall finishers in each race will be recognized. Overall awards will not double into the age group awards.

Elite entries are available. Please email the RD before registering (bmader@runninglane.com)

Weather

Dawn is at 5:45am with dusk at 8:25pm (sunrise 6:20am and sunset 8:00pm). Weather in Central Oregon in late August is normally dry, sunny, and excellent for ultra running. Cool mornings and evenings, and very predictable. Expect highs around 70 and lows around 40. However because the course ranges from 4000ft to 6700ft you should expect a chance of cold and/or precipitation. The event is highly unlikely to be affected by weather.

If a weather system does roll in, weather breaks over the mountains west of Bend so precipitation is more likely on the west end of the course while it's most likely to be dry on the east end. Be prepared for wind but it's not a particular concern thanks to mountain and tree cover along the course.

The RD reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule the event if weather threatens the safety of runners or volunteers, or if the trails may be significantly damaged by weather + foot traffic. All reasonable efforts will be made to avoid this scenario, but in the VERY unlikely event of a cancellation, deferrals and partial refunds will be arranged.
