Snowshoe Events

Important Race Update February 1, 2026
Winter seems to have forgotten us this year. Not only are we experiencing record low snowfall levels, but the snow we did get a couple of weeks ago is quickly disappearing with the unseasonably warm temperatures. The forecast for this coming week leading up to race day is warmer temps, perhaps some rain, and little to no chance of any new snow. So that precludes any chance of a “snowshoe” race Saturday, Feb. 7th. With that in mind, we have decided that rather than cancel the event outright, we would offer a “Mud Madness” race instead for those brave souls looking for a new adventure. We envision something like this:
Mud Madness 2026: Instead of a snowshoe race, this will essentially be an early spring trail race. We will set up 5k and 10k distance courses, locations will depend on existing conditions later this week. Racers will be allowed to use any foot wear they desire--trail running shoes recommended. Wet and muddy conditions will be featured. Be sure to dress appropriately! As always, finisher awards and Jody’s cookies will be available to everyone. Not sure what to expect for turnout—hope to see you on Saturday. Looking forward to some great finish line photos!

Welcome to the 13th Anniversary Edition of the Western Pleasure Snowshoe Roundup hosted by the scenic Western Pleasure Guest Ranch.. Events include 5k and 10k snowshoe races for all ages, and a short distance untimed Buckaroo race for racers 6 and under. All events offer both recreational and competitive opportunities. No experience necessary. New this year: Recreational category--an untimed, self start opportunity for those who want to participate but not compete. Will have access to aid stations and finisher's awards but not placement awards. This is a fun event for the whole family and everyone is invited to participate! Race courses are challenging but very scenic and consist of a combination of hills, meadows, forest, and open areas. They may be machine groomed, snowshoe groomed, or a combination. Awards are individually handcrafted, unique, and combine the old west ranch spirit with modern snowshoe racing. Placement awards for first three male and female finishers in the 5k and 10k, and all finishers in all races receive finisher's awards. Racers 12 and under race for free. A limited number of kid’s snowshoes will be available for Buckaroo racers on a first come basis at no charge. Participants 7 and older must register on line. Buckaroo Race free--register race morning in lodge. Hot soup and beverages will be available for purchase in the lodge. Number pickup and race day registration is from 8:00 to 9:30 am in the lodge.
Race Start:
Buckaroo race: 10:00 am
10k: 10:30 am
5k: 10:45 am
For our out of town guests, rooms are available at the ranch--register early!

Racing snowshoe size requirements

For racers wishing to compete, we are following the size requirements for racing snowshoes adopted by the United States Snowshoe Association (USSSA). Snowshoes can be no smaller than 7in x 20in for adults. Most adult sized snowshoes meet this requirement. See more info here: https://trailrunner.com/trail-news/usssa-snowshoe-size-regulations-for-racing/ Does not apply to recreation categories
