Race Day Info:
We are excited about this year’s annual Monastery trail races. This event is unlike any other race you'll go to… ever! This is the third year since we've added the 8-mile race and 10th year overall! Runners and walkers will have a unique opportunity to trek through the Monastery woodlands to enjoy the serene and peaceful landscape. This is a trail run on open-air courses over natural dirt or grass terrain.
Packet pickup will be in front of the Monastery Store Friday from noon until 5pm and on race day at the same place from 6:30 until 8:15.
Pray with the monks:
It has become a tradition for many participants who choose to join the monks before the race for Morning Prayer & Mass at 7:00 a.m. with the race following immediately after Mass. Please allow ample time to park and walk to the Abbey Church. The races begin soon after the conclusion of Mass. All the races begin at the same time, 8:30 am.
The race starts in front of the Monastery Visitor Center and then goes on the trails that weave among the monastery’s scenic woodlands and lakesides. You'll run past lakes and open fields with amazing views. You'll run up repentance hill (a 1/4 mile challenging hill in the middle of the course). Then you'll run through more amazing trails and end up at the Visitor Center. At the end of the 5K race, the 8-miler continues on a new route for the remaining 4.9 miles to complete the 8-miler. The 1.5 mile course shares the same course but at .75 the course doubles back toward the start. The 5K and 8 miler will share a water stop at mile 1.4ish and then the 8milers will have another around 3.5 and you'll pass that one again around 7.25. The 8 mile course is tough, and its June so we are asking everyone running the 8 mile course to carry a water bottle or some type of hydration. We are handing out water bottles to all preregistered runners if you do not have one then don't worry.
There is not a time limit for any race but we do ask that you complete the 8 mile race in under 3 hours.
5K AWARDS will be (male/ female) top 3 overall and top 3 overall masters, 10 & under, 11-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-69, 60-64, 65+. Awards ceremony will take place after the race.
8-Mile AWARDS will be (male / female) top overall. MEDALS for all finishers of the 8 miler.
After the race: FREE PANCAKES FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS
Timing: The 5K and 8 miler will be chipped timed. We use a reusable chip that needs to be pinned on your left hip outside all of your clothing. Do not fold it, put it in your pocket, or put it under any article of clothing. Also, please make sure your bib is visible on the front of you. We will be collecting the chips when you finish too.
Bib Swapping/Transfers/Cancellations: This race will be held rain or shine. No refunds. Please do not swap bibs with anyone or run under another person’s name; this will result in disqualification because it messes up our age group awards.
