You have been personally invited by HRCarrera and Healdsburg Running Company to participate in the second annual global Rosé Mile! This event is a fun-only zone! No pressure - just 25 wine industry runners, and 25 friends of HRC participating to set a record for the Rosé Mile! Additional awards will go out to: Best Smile and Best Rosé-Inspired Costume!
Breakfast party at the finish line, located at Grey Pine Trailhead.
Course Description:
This one-mile course will be a nearly 100% downhill road course - perfectly smooth and paved! We will meet at the Grey Pine Parking lot (which is also the Finish line) where shuttles will take participants to the start line - just one mile up the road at Lone Rock trailhead parking lot. At 9 AM, the start gun will go off and Runners will embark on a one-mile journey to set the world record for fastest Rosé Mile! Every 1/4 mile runners must stop at the "Rosé aid stations" to hydrate with a pour of rosé before continuing down to the finish where we will be serving fresh strawberry pancakes and of course, more rosé! Come on out for the funnest, most exclusive running event of the summer!
Charity:
The Rose Mile Invitational will benefit "Run for Stump," in loving memory of Sarah Sumpter. Sarah Sumpter was a Healdsburg local. Growing up, she ran for Healdsburg High School's cross-country and track team and quickly turned into a local legend demonstrating qualities of hard work, dedication and determination - all which led to her Senior-year title of State Champion. After High School, Sumpter went on to run for UC Davis in Fall of 2009 where "she became only the second freshman in Big West Conference history to win the women’s cross country championship. She was also named the Big West Women’s Athlete of the Year" (Press Democrat).
Unfortunately, just one year later as Sarah began her sophomore year of college, she was diagnosed with brain cancer. After undergoing surgery and treatment, Sarah continued to pursue her love and gift for running - setting a 10k record for Davis, training for half marathons and olympic trial races - all while undergoing chemotherapy. Sarah's strong character and unfaltering love for running made the last five years of her life nothing short of inspiring. Sumpter passed away in September 2015, five years after her diagnosis. Today we honor her not only by raising money for Cancer research, but through movement, laughter, and a love for running.
