The Horny Toad Hustle Trail Run will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2019. The Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance brings you another beautiful trail race in the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument, just outside of Las Cruces, NM.
Local time: 7:23 PM
The Horny Toad Hustle trail run is organized in cooperation with the local mountain biking community and the Horny Toad Hustle mountain bike race. The bike race will be the following Sunday, Sept. 28 on the same trails. Sign up for both to make a "Super Toad" weekend.
This is the first year of the trail run and we are excited to showcase the beautiful and fast singletrack of the Dona Ana Mountains (one of the Desert Peaks in OMDP). There will be 3 distances: Half Marathon (21k), 10k, and 5k. All are on 99.9% singletrack.
Awards will consist of custom screen printed posters and pies made by the local trail community. Let us know if you would like to bake some pies for the run or volunteer in any other way. We will need volunteers to help setup, breakdown, staff aid stations, timing, and Start/Finish staff. Awards will be presented to top finishers and age groups.
The first 120 registrants will receive race socks. Light refreshments will be served after the run
All proceeds from the race will go to SNMTA to continue our work on trails.
The 5k and 10k have one aid station. The half marathon (21k) has 4 aid stations.
Maps of the run courses can be found at http://snmta.org/trails/trailmaps/. You can download the maps as GeoPDFs and view/navigate using an app such as Avenza.
Register early as there will be no day of registration. We will be allowing registrations at packet pickup (cash or check preffered). Packet pickup will be Friday, Sept. 27 from 3:30-6:30 PM at Organ Mountain Outfitters in downtown Las Cruces. After packet pickup, go check out the Wild and Scenic Film Festival at the Fountain Theatre in Mesilla (https://organmountainsdesertpeaks.org/wild-and-scenic-film-festival-on-tour/)
Race Day Timeline:
6:00 - 7:45 - Check In
8:00 - Half (21k) start
8:15 - 10k start
8:30 - 5k start
As with the Sierra Vista Trail Runs, we will be accepting donations of old shoes at the race. We suggest a one pair donation as part of registration (of course you donate more). The shoes will be donated to the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope for those in our local community that can use a little help right now.
Thank you for supporting the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance and your local trail community.
