OPENING AS A WAITLIST
Out of an abundance of caution, registration is starting out as a waitlist due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding the duration of the COVID pandemic. Signing up for the waitlist reserves your spot in the race, but the registration fee is NOT charged. We will invite participants off the waitlist to confirm their registration (and pay the fee) once we have determined the race can proceed as planned.
Welcome to the Siuslaw Dunes Trail Runs in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. These very challenging and scenic runs offer early season 50K and 25K adventures that traverse a wild tapestry of coastal terrain, including ancient open sand dunes with “tree islands”, old growth rainforest, stream crossings and remote ocean beaches. Located just south of old town Florence, Oregon, the races start and finish at historic Honeyman State Park. We are both honored and thrilled to offer this truly one-of-a-kind race opportunity that will challenge even the most seasoned runners!
Oregon’s central coast harbors a mosaic landscape of ancient forests, ocean and sand dune ecosystems known as the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Within the mighty Siuslaw National Forest (pronounced sigh-YEW-slaw), the ever-changing Oregon Dunes are the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America, offering dynamic scenery as well as opportunities for both adventure and solitude.
The event beneficiary is Siuslaw High School’s Cross Country and Track & Field programs in Florence, Oregon. Daybreak Racing’s founder and Race Director, Jeremy was born and raised in Florence, learned to run here and is an alum of Siuslaw High. We’re honored to give back to where it all started!
This is an incredibly diverse, very challenging course and there is nothing else like it anywhere, so bring your sense of adventure to the coast and LET'S DUNE THIS! The Siuslaw Dunes 50K course (31.2 miles) offers magnificent views on a lollipop-loop style course along open dunes, forested single track trails and remote ocean beaches.
The course includes approximately 2,750' of ascent along with 2,750' of descent, but the course is deceivingly difficult! Most of the elevation gain is seen during the forested loop portion, midway through the course and along the rolling open dunes.
The race’s surface terrain types alternate continuously throughout the race, presenting a unique challenge that will demand a runner’s attention and fitness. For example, over a given 5 mile stretch, a runner could see a mile of beach, then a mile of forested sandy trail, cross some open dunes, then enter 2 miles of forested singletrack trail, and so on.
The Siuslaw Dunes 25K course offers incredible views on a challenging lollipop-loop style course along open dunes, remote ocean beaches and some forested single track trails. The course is a touch long, at 16.6 miles (27K) to be exact, so, bonus!
The course includes approximately 1,300' of ascent along with 1,300' of descent, but don't let that fool you!
The race’s surface terrain types alternate continuously throughout the race, presenting a unique challenge that will demand a runner’s attention and fitness. For example, over a given 5 mile stretch, a runner could see a mile of beach, then a 0.5 mile sandy trail, cross a patch of open dunes, then enter 2 miles of forested singletrack trail, and so on.
