Want a second helping? The 16.24 mile Pi Slam combines the Pi Miler and River Rotation Half Marathon! It's the perfect challenge to add a little more distance to your day.
After the race, enjoy some pie at the finish line with your finisher's fork!
Start Time
The Pi Miler begins at 7:30 AM. The Half Marathon begins at 8:30 AM. Pi Slammers will begin with the Pi Milers and must be back at the starting line by 8:30 AM to join the Half Marathon.
Course
The Lawrence River Trails are relatively flat singletrack with a few short hills sprinkled in for fun. They are flowy and not too technical, with few roots or rocks, perfect for trail running experts and beginners alike.
Races begin at the Levee gate, go down through the parking lot, and enter the River Trails on the south (right-hand) side.
PI MILER
The Pi Miler is one loop following the 5K Loop route.
Pi Miler Route on Strava
RIVER ROTATION HALF MARATHON
The Half Marathon is three loops on the trails:
Race Loop counterclockwise (just under 5 miles)
Race Loop clockwise (just under 5 miles)
4 Corners Loop (just over 3 miles)
Loop 1/2 on Strava
Loop 3 on Strava
Courses are subject to change, but all races will follow very closely to the established Race Loop, 4 Corners, and/or 5K Loop routes on the River Trails. Turnarounds are marked with permanent signage and will be flagged for race day, with volunteers to help direct you.
Water, electrolytes, energy snacks, fruit, and other items will be available on the course.
A smaller aid station is near the 5K Loop turnaround, about halfway through the race for Pi Milers.
Half Marathoners will pass the smaller aid station during each of your loops, about 1.5 miles after leaving the trailhead and again on the way back. Half Marathoners will also have access to a larger aid station at the trailhead. You will pass it twice during the race at intervals of ~5 miles.
We encourage runners to bring your own reusable hydration bottles or cups, in keeping with the Trail Hawks motto "Kindness to Life and Land". We will provide a few cups by the water coolers at the aid stations if you are in need.
If the trails are unsafe for runners or vulnerable to damage due to muddy conditions, an alternative course will be provided by the Lawrence Trail Hawks Race Directors. The alternate course will most likely be on the packed-gravel Lawrence Levee Trail.
Awards
Some races give you hardware. Pi Day gives you flatware! Enjoy your post-race pie with your finisher's fork.
Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each gender overall for the Pi Miler and River Rotation Half Marathon races.
Pi Slam finisher will receive a special swag item. Pi Slam runners are eligible for place awards in the Pi Miler and Half Marathon. Awards will be presented at the finish line.
Cutoffs
The Pi Day River Rotation race will have an end time of 1:00 PM. This allows our volunteers to pack up in a timely manner so the Lawrence River Trails can be free for other users in the afternoon. For half marathoners, that allows 4.5 hours to complete your race (about a 20:35 per mile pace). To ensure you make the cutoff time, half marathoners must leave the aid station to begin their final loop of the course by 11:45 AM. Participants who start a loop after 11:45 AM continue on the public trails at their own risk, without support from the race.
Lawrence Trail Hawk Discount
Dues paying members of the Lawrence Trail Hawks (http://trailhawks.com/) are eligible for the Trail Hawk discount.

Deferral Policy
Seeing you cross the finish line is the reason we host this race. If you’ve signed up for one of the events, but are unable to safely participate in the race, we offer the following options.
CHANGING DISTANCE PRIOR TO THE RACE
Runners may contact the Race Director and transfer to a lower or a higher distance on or before February 28th. If moving to a higher distance, a pro-rata charge will apply. No credit or refund can be given for transfers to a lower-distance race. You can also "EDIT" your registration on Ultrasignup and change the distance yourself.
NO BIB TRANSFERS
The Pi Day River Rotation race series does not allow refunds or for the runners to transfer entries to other participants. Race numbers and official participant bibs are assigned by the Race Director to each specific participant and may not be sold, transferred, reproduced, replicated, or modified.
DEFERRAL
Runners may defer their race entries to the following year by notifying the Race Director on or before February 28th.
DID NOT START
If you can’t attend, and haven’t deferred, please let the Race Director know at least seven days before the race, so your name can be removed from the starters list. You also have the option to remove yourself from the race on Ultrasignup. If you don’t show up, and don’t let us know in advance that you can’t make it, you’ll be recorded as DNS in the race results.
Race Cancellation or Postponement
In the event the race should be postponed or canceled for reasons beyond the control of the Lawrence Trail Hawks (inclement or unsafe weather conditions; local, state or national emergency), refunds will not be made. Race packets will be available at a location to be determined or possibly, though but not guaranteed, by mail.
