Why Should I sign up for this race?

Beautiful course, free breakfast, good company, race photos, custom locally made finisher medal and awards, friendly competition, performance t-shirt, and swag. What more could you want? Really if you can think of something let us know and we will try to get it!

South Mountain includes all of the paved trails runners have come to love in Draper. Namely the Porter Rockwell Trail and Canal Trail. Every distance will enjoy these trails. The half marathon also includes the best parts of Draper City itself. The trails are absolutely beautiful at the end of April when Spring is at its strongest!

5k

The 5k starts at Wheadon Farm, a massive and stunning park. You climb a hill to the Canal Trail which you follow until making a right to cut through a neighborhood. This detour leads you to the Porter Rockwell Trail which follow until making another right turn. After this turn it is a downhill run to the finish!

3.1 miles and +150 ft elevation total
76% Paved Trail, 16% Dirt Trail, 8% Road

*There will be Trail Marshals positioned at major intersections to prevent you from getting lost or cutting!

No cutoff time, we want everyone finishing even if it means walking.

Half Marathon

The Half Marathon starts at Wheadon Farm, a massive and stunning park. You climb a hill to the Canal Trail which you follow all the way to the next aid station. From here you take the Porter Rockwell Trail going north which leads you to Draper Park Aid Station.

Draper Park is a beautiful park and leads you to the Willow Creek Trail. This trail takes you to a loop which includes Corner Canyon Highschool. You take Willow Creek Trail back to Draper Park Aid Station.

You meet up with the North Canal Trail which leads you to Andy Ballard Arena and the Bunny Bradley Trail which takes you to your last aid station. You follow the Porter Rockwell trail taking a slight detour on to a dirt trail to avoid a street crossing. After taking a right turn off the Porter Rockwell you have an all downhill run to the finish!

Aid 1 to Aid 2 - 1.1 miles +0/-52 ft elevation (Has bathrooms)

Aid 2 to Aid 3 - 1.0 miles +0/-45 ft elevation

Aid 3 to Aid 4 - 1.4 miles +35/-23 ft elevation

Aid 4 to Aid 5 - 1.0 miles +45/-0 ft elevation( Has bathrooms)

Aid 5 to Aid 6 - 2.5 miles +172/-118 ft elevation (Has bathrooms)

Aid 6 to Aid 7 1.4 miles +91/-29 ft

Aid 7 to Finish - 1.7 miles +10/-161 ft elevation

13.1 miles and +420 ft elevation total

Race day packet pick up 
Starts at 5:30 am. Please arrive as early as possible to ensure a smooth and stress free start. Think of it as a chance to mingle with your fellow runners before the real fun starts. There is no day before packet pick up (saves you a trip!)

All runners should arrive at least 45 minutes before their races start time to check in and pick up their packet. Pre-race announcement 10 minutes before each start time.

Swag
Runners will receive a high quality race shirt and a custom locally made finishers medal along with goods from sponsors.

Post Race Breakfast
Great Harvest Bread will have cinnamon rolls, muffins, and pumpkin chocolate chip bread! We will also have chocolate milk, orange juice, and bananas.

Awards
Overall male and female for 5k and Half Marathon will receive a custom locally made plaque for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. 

Age Division medals will also be handed out to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female in these age groups: >20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

Photos
We will have a photographer on the course as well as the finish line. Photos will be hosted on a server that uses bib recognition. We will NOT put a logo or watermark on your picture. Instead of ruining your picture with our logo we would rather rely on you telling your friends and family about our races!

Finish Line​
Awards ceremony will be held when we have our winners. We will have a photo backdrop for pictures with friends and family.  We will also have Cornhole, our favorite game! If you don't know what Cornhole is you are missing out.​

Parking
Free parking, there is lots of parking at Wheadon Farm Park.​

Word of mouth
Your friends and family are the best way to promote this race. Running is much more fun with a buddy!

Volunteers
These events are not possible without help! To show our appreciation all volunteers will receive a free race entry for any future Happy Trails race. Expires after one year. In addition volunteers will have access to food at the finish line area.​

Late Registration
Begins April 6th and closes April 24th at 9:59 pm

We cannot guarantee all participants registering after April 6th will be able to order a shirt. We will order extra to do our best to accommodate late registration. If we do not have your size or you do not want a shirt you can use code NOSHIRT at checkout for $10 off registration.

Same Day Registration
Not available. Registration will close Friday night at 9:59 pm
