Description

Scenic summer trail runs in the Cascade Mountains of south central Washington near Yakima, WA (16th year).  This out and back, single track trail, is tough and rugged with over 3500 ft of elevation gain for the 25K.  Don’t underestimate this one. The shorter 12K is an option which follows the same route, all starting at Tree Phones Campground in the Ahtanum State Forest.  There are views of Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams, open ridges and forested stretches, rocky and smooth forest trails.  The higher mountain elevation keeps the temperatures down, but it can still get very warm by mid day.  There will be aid stations with water, electrolyte drinks, power bars, gels at 25k turnaround; nevertheless, runners are also advised to carry water and snacks with them.
