2021 BIG BUTTS, presented by MUTS (MS Ultra and Trail Society), is a trail race with an individual 100k, 50k and 100K Relay. The start is at the Mississippi College cross country Choctaw Trails pavilion with 7.75 mile loops on both the cross country trails and Butts Park single track trails. There is plenty of room around the start to set up your own aid, tents, coolers, chairs, etc. The course itself is not technical and has a few small hills, but the MS heat and humidity of late July make this race a BIG challenge. Only a few people over the years have completed the 100K.
TIME: 7am--9pm--14 hour time limit for all 3 races
AID STATIONS: There are two aid stations. The S/F aid station and one on the course with water, Tailwind sports drink, and food.
Registration: MUTS races do not offer refunds, transfers, or deferrals. $40 for the 50K, $50 for the 100K and $40 for each individual relay member. MUTS members get a $5 discount at checkout. So members don’t forget your code!
COURSE: 7.75 mile loops on mostly single track trails. The majority of the course is in the shade with approximately 170’ of elevation gain per loop.
AWARDS: There are no finisher medals for this race but other unique swag. Top 3 males and females in each individual race and the top relay team will receive a custom award. And $100 if a 100k racer can beat the fastest time of 10:05:56!!
CHANGING RACES: You may change distances after the race begins, but you will not be eligible for an award. If you drop from the race please inform race officials before leaving. Please notify race timers if you decide to change distances.
RELAY TEAMS: Teams can consist of 2-4 members. You may run as much or as little as you like during the 12-hour time limit but only one member of each team may officially be on course at one time.
Packet pick-up will only be Saturday, July 31 from 5:30 a.m. until race start. There will be a flagged off area near the start/finish pavilion containing all runners packets organized by last name. Please get your packet as you arrive on race morning – a volunteer will be there to assist.
