We have decided that we WILL hold the event in some capacity in October. We are hopeful that we can hold the event as we have done the past 6 years, however many signs point to this not being the case. It is very likely that if we are allowed to hold the race that we will have to cap the event at a much lower number than we have in the past. Typically, we allow 300+ people to register, but we very likely will need to reduce that number. It is entirely possible that we will have to cancel a "live" running of PV50K in favor of a virtual event. If that were the case, you would still receive your shirt, all of the swag, a custom finishers mug, and have it all shipped to you after the race is over. We also may need to do a "hybrid" of sorts where we allow a certain number of people to run in the "live" event, but also hold a virtual version for those uncomfortable with the notion of being around others while the COVID pandemic is still part of our lives, or for those runners above and beyond the allowable reduced capacity for a live event. At this time, we are asking all runners to consider the above options and scenarios and decide if you wish to register. Once your card has been charged, you are subject to our regular refund policy. If you decide to cancel your registration 30+ days before the race, you will get your registration fee minus $20 refunded to you. Cancellation requests less than 30 days before the race will not receive a refund.
The Patapsco Valley 50K is a trail ultramarathon on the trails of Patapsco Valley State Park Avalon Area in Baltimore, Maryland. The race features plenty of scenic, natural surface, single-track trails with a few short sections on paved bike trail. The terrain is challenging but runnable with rolling hills throughout. The course has a handful of small creek crossings and can often be muddy in many places. In 2017 & 2019, runners forded the Patapsco River on foot, and the river crossing will be back in 2020, pending park management approval. You will hardly believe you are just minutes from busy downtown Baltimore!
Course highlights include Cascade Falls, a John Smith exploration memorial, the ruins of the Orange Grove Flour Mill, as well as the Avalon Nail and Iron Works ruins. Not to mention gorgeous views of the Patapsco River throughout!
