Significance of 1908

The 1908 Trail run event is a one-time event planned for 25-26 April 2020 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The 1908 Trail run is a celebration to honor the 112th Birthday of the Army Reserve. The Army Reserve traditional birthday cake cutting ceremony is at 1300 (1:00 pm) hours. Team and solo site setup are available starting at 0800 (8 am). 1908 challenge run will start promptly at 1424 (2:24 pm) hours. The endurance challenge will continue for 19 hours 8 minutes end at 0932 (9:32 am) hours the following morning.
The significance of the 19 hours and 8 minutes run is to honor the year the Army Reserve, that was federally recognized 23 April 1908. Beginning the race at 1424 hours (2:24pm) signifies when Congress passed Senate Bill 1424. “The Reserve medical officers in the corps could be ordered to active duty by the secretary of war during times of emergency.” (https://archive.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=49633)
This run can be completed with a four-person team or solo. If you do it as a team you are all Rock Stars, as a Solo runner you are just not right in the head.

Description

This is a not for profit. All registration fees will fund commemorative shirts, food, and supplies for the participants. We are not responsible for you tripping over the roots at mile 2, and the rocks everywhere. However, you can thank us for the last half mile of smooth fast surface at the end so you look awesome for photos as you come into the exchange.
There will be two aid stations at approximately the half way point, they will have someone there most of the time to help with water. There will be plenty of roots, rocks, mud, dirt trail, and some nice double track. Generally, this is a technical adventure trail run. There is some wild life in the area, most will run from you but there could be some that run at you. But hey, you will have a better lap time.

The Course is approximately 4-miles starting at Camp Conestoga on Fort Leavenworth. There will be uphill sections; there will be downhill sections; there will be flat sections, there will be sections you’re not sure if they are up or down, but mostly fun and challenging. At 12 to 15 hours into the event we will let the walking and floating trees loose along with the jackalopes. We are even considering making some hills steeper, and move some terrain features. (if you have done endurance runs, you know the deal) Don’t pass up this chance to test your endurance and see how many bandages you can collect on your knees!

More Information

All participants will need hydration system (water bottle, bladder, etc.) and headlamp.
Top three awards will go to the individuals who completes the most loops in 19 hours and 8 minutes or last person standing.
Team prize will go to the team that completes the most loops in 19 hours and 8 minutes. Everyone else gets a high-five and bragging rights.
Camp Conestoga, has open grass field with a few fire pit areas, if you are waiting for a runner or supporting a solo runner you can enjoy the space. We will have areas so your teams can setup some pop-ups, cots and really enjoy the event. Hey this is April in Kansas; it can be gorgeous or not, so be prepared. If you are going for the gusto as solo, we will have an area set aside closer to the start-finish of the loop. We will post more details on the Facebook page to ensure everyone has a memorable experience and prepared as best possible. If you have not done events of this nature, please reach out to Col Liberg, or Scott for some tips and trick.
COL Angel Liberg along with SGM (RET) Scott Brannam are the race directors. We have mapped the four-mile loop at Camp Conestoga, on Fort Leavenworth. This loop has several terrain features, half of the course will be single track trail, while remaining will be double track. This event will provide a great opportunity to build a team, challenge yourself and recognize one of our greatest military organization.
