THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

General Description

EVENT CANCELED. Due to the efforts being made by the U of U to slow the spread of COVID 19, this year’s edition of the SOTA Trail Run is canceled. We apologize to those looking forward to this event. As was stated in the event details, we do not offer refunds. All proceeds that have currently been raised will still support the student occupational therapy association at the U of U. Thank you for your understanding. Hopefully we have better luck next year.

Come and enjoy Salt Lake City's beautiful mountains by participating in this 3.5 mile trail run/hike, and help support the University of Utah's 2021 class of occupational therapy students. The course is comprised entirely of dirt trails as it loops to the summit of Mt. Van Cott for a spectacular view of the valley before descending quickly to a flat, rolling finish on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.

Entry is $15 per person, and is non-refundable. All proceeds go to supporting the U of U's occupational therapy student organization. Race entry is capped at 150 participants. All participants will receive an unique, handmade finisher medal upon completion of the course. No additional awards are given to top finishers, this is an event designed to equally celebrate the fitness and activity levels of all participants.

This event is dog friendly. All canine companions are welcome but must remain on a leash for the duration of the event.

The race will begin at 9:00 am on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail next to the intersection of E Medical Dr. and Red Butte Canyon Rd. Parking can be found nearby, but is not designated solely for race use. It is the participant's responsibility to arrive early to find available parking for the event. University parking is free on Saturdays.

The course begins on a brief, flat section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. After a third of a mile, it will begin to climb the ridge lines to the top of Mt. Van Cott. This is the most strenuous section of the course with participants following a rocky, single-tract trail to climb 1,264 ft. in just over a mile up the south-east side of the peak. Those who make the climb are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the surrounding valley and mountains. After soaking up the view, participants will speed down the north-east ridge lines to connect back up with the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. At this point participants can look forward to an easy mile of rolling, wide trail to complete the course.

Photos will be taken at the summit by volunteers, and posted to the SOTA Trail Run Facebook event page after the event.

This is a leave no trace event. One water station will be available at the bottom of the climb just after the 2 mile mark, but no cups are provided. It is the responsibility of all participants to carry their own reusable containers if they wish to refuel at this station. There will also be no medical support provided. Again, all participants are responsible for their own safety. This includes carrying any water, food, clothing, or medical supplies that participants deem necessary for themselves.

Race day bib pickup, day of payments registrations of cash or check, and release form signing will be at the race start area from 7:00am-8:50am just east of the intersection of E Medical Dr. and Red Butte Canyon Rd.

The race will begin promptly at 9:00am.
