San Diego Ultrarunning Friends (SURF) is pleased to announce the 1st Annual River Park Ultras to benefit the Lakeside River Park Conservancy (LRPC). All profits will be donated to this wonderful organization which is dedicated to preservation management of wildlife and lands within the sanctuary.

All four events: the Backyard, the 6 Hour, the 12 Hour, and the 24 Hour will take place along the 2 Mile Lakeside River Park Trail which traverses the beautiful LRPC conservancy grounds. The course is measured at exactly 2.00 miles to the turnaround checkpoint and will return on the same trail to the start/finish venue for a round trip distance of 4.00 miles for each lap.

Participants may choose from: the Backyard Ultra which starts on Friday, Jul 31, 2020 at 6:00 pm, or the 6 Hour, 12 Hour, and 24 Hour Ultras that start concurrently at 7:30 am on August 1.

Information / Details

The Backyard or Last Person Standing Ultra will start at 6:00 pm on a Friday in conjunction with a full moon weekend.

This event requires runners cover 4 miles each hour to remain in the race. Each hour a new race will start at the top of the hour. Any runner finishing a lap within one hour is eligible to continue for the next hour's lap. Any runner not in the starting corral for the next hour's lap is ineligible to continue and will retire.

The last person to finish a lap after all others have retired is recognized as the The Last Person Standing Winner. The Backyard Ultra will end after 40 hours at 10:00 am on Sunday, Aug 2 (160 miles). Any runners completing the 40th lap will tie for the overall winner awards.

The 6 Hour, 12 Hour, and 24 Hour races start concurrently at 7:30 on the Saturday of a full moon weekend. These are timed events on the same two mile out and back as the Backyard Ultra. Runner's distances (# of laps) are tracked and timed at the completion of each lap. The total distance for each runner is calculated by how many laps were completed in their respective timed events. Runners will not receive distance for portions of their last lap when the time limit has expired.

The start and finish area is a 7 acre lot on the LRPC grounds and has ample room for camping, pop up tents, and RV's or car camping.. There are no RV hookups available at the site. Runners and crews are encouraged to have a small tent, pop up, or cot and chair in order to rest and replenish as needed. There will be a major aid station at the venue to provide all the ultra fare needs required for the duration of the Backyard and 6 / 12 / 24 hour timed races.

Event's current local time: 10:23 PM PT
