Registration opens March 30 at 9:00 p.m. and will stay open until April 26.
EVENT PARTICIPATION WINDOW
You may run the 19K distance anytime between April 1-30.
With "social distancing" the norm for the foreseeable future, I thought it would be fun to have a virtual event of sorts on the trails. As you know Steep Endurance puts on events at some amazing preserves, parks, land trusts, and even farms here in CT. Running trails is simply a great way to decompress and distract from daily life in this current environment that we are living in. The Steep Endurance COVID-19K Trail Challenge or the Coronavirus Outdoor Virtual Independent Diversion.
Here's the skinny on the virtual event. Go find either the most beautiful and/or difficult 19K (11.8 miles) of trail near you or you can drive a bit if you like. Try to explore some trails that you haven't before, some trails that are less traveled. Get out of your comfort zone a bit and be one with the trail. Have a little fun with this run! You have until April 30 to complete your run. The idea is for each runner to run "solo" and self supported, complying with the social distancing requests.
In order to help support those in need in this crazy world we live in, a significant portion of the proceeds will go to a local food bank in Connecticut.
Each runner will receive:
A portable Steep Endurance logo hydration cup made by Hydrapak.
A custom designed medal from Ragged Cuts.
Online discount coupons to sponsors of Steep Endurance races.
The opportunity to run a course that you design.
Each participant that finishes their 19K run will receive 25% off one Steep Endurance race of their choice through the end of 2020.
We will also be giving away a prize to the most adventurous 19K to both male and female plus some prizes (in a random drawing) from some of our sponsors too!
Timeline/Suggestions for Virtual Run
You have from April 1-30 to complete the run.
Run a 19K trail distance of your choosing. It can be single track, double track, rail trails, technical trails, rocky trails, or even power line trails. Run a point to point, a loop, or an out and back. It is up to you!
Each runner will record their route/time via GPS that they run through either a Strava or Garmin Connect link. If you are reporting through Strava, you must record as a "race" to get an accurate time. Both Strava and Garmin Connect also have apps that you could use on your phone to record the time.
We want to hear about your run when you do it! Share your epic run with us by submitting your GPS link to this event Google Spreadsheeet. This link for the spreadsheet will be updated here on April 1 >>>> Steep Endurance COVID-19K Trail Challenge. You can also email your GPS link to firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll make sure it gets on spreadsheet.
Share your run on by tagging @steependurance, or use the hashtags #steependuranceCOVID19KTrailChallenge and #steependurance on Facebook/Instagram. We will highlight your experience and re-post for others to see!
