South Mountain Half Marathon

Wheadon Farm Park

Draper, UT 1/2 Marathon, 5K

Registration closes: Fri, Apr 23 @ 9:59PM

COVID-19

We were able to hold our last two races in 2020 and both were a success in terms of safety and managing covid precautions. Our races are smaller in size due to taking place on the trails and we are confident we can safely hold these events in 2021.

We will always put our runners first. We will do whatever we can to make this race happen while keeping the runners safe. If we are unable to do this runners will be issued credits or refunds. We are optimistic though and really hope with the vaccine and safety measures we will begin beating this virus!

Why Should I sign up for this race?

Beautiful course, free breakfast, good company, race photos, custom locally made finisher medal and awards, friendly competition, performance t-shirt, and swag. What more could you want? Really if you can think of something let us know and we will try to get it!

South Mountain includes all of the paved trails runners have come to love in Draper. Namely the Porter Rockwell Trail and Canal Trail. Every distance will enjoy these trails. The half marathon also includes the best parts of Draper City itself. The trails are absolutely beautiful at the end of April when Spring is at its strongest!

Please check out the website for all the info you will need. Ask us if you have any questions, Happy Trails!

5k

The 5k starts at Wheadon Farm, a massive and stunning park. You climb a hill to the Canal Trail which you follow until making a right to cut through a neighborhood. This detour leads you to the Porter Rockwell Trail which follow until making another right turn. After this turn it is a downhill run to the finish!

3.1 miles and +150 ft elevation total
76% Paved Trail, 16% Dirt Trail, 8% Road

*There will be Trail Marshals positioned at major intersections to prevent you from getting lost or cutting!

No cutoff time, we want everyone finishing even if it means walking.

Youth Registration
Same as normal registration your child will receive a medal and shirt. We honestly will lose money with offering registrations this cheap but we know it can be expensive to sign up the whole family. My wife is a Kindergarten teacher who loves kids and I am a Personal Trainer who strongly believes in children staying active due to childhood obesity drastically increasing. Tell those kids to step away from the video games and go running! We would love to see our 5ks filled with families.

Half Marathon

The Half Marathon starts at Wheadon Farm, a massive and stunning park. You climb a hill to the Canal Trail which you follow all the way to the next aid station. You will turn off the main trail and begin an out and back leg of the course where a Trail Marshal will be waiting for you at the turn around. From here you continue back to the aid station.

You leave this aid station on the Porter Rockwell Trail going South which leads to the next aid station. You will have incredible views of the valley during this section.

From this next aid station you only have a little further to go before you turn around and head back the way you came from Wheadon Farm Park. On the way out you had incredible views of the valley, now the views showcase the Wasatch Mountains!

The course is an out and back with a gradual climb leading up to the turn around point making for a gradual downhill for the last 5 miles.

About

Happy Trails Running started in 2019 and hosts a new series of races focusing on beautiful scenery and amazing courses. We believe in promoting and using local businesses for support and supplies. Our finisher medals are custom made right here in the USA. We want to make races that are affordable and provide a great experience for runners of all skill levels.

We have no time limits on our races with the marathon being the exception. All of our races are much smaller with limited amounts of runners so we do not overwhelm the trails. Quality over quantity!

These races feature our favorite trails along the beautiful Wasatch Mountains with a distance and difficulty level for everyone. Whether you are doing your first 5k, half marathon, marathon, or running as a team, we hope you will enjoy these awesome races!
