This event has been postponed from Feb 21, 2021 to Mar 07, 2021
Online Registration Open (Race Day)
If you register after Friday, March 5, you will need to go to the RACE DAY REGISTRATION Table (not the packet pickup table).
COVID-19 **Updated 2/6/21**
The City of Dripping Springs has cancelled most private events at Dripping Springs Ranch Park Arena and Event Center-- the location of the 2021 Happy Trails race. I’ve had many conversations with the city with the goal of doing what I can as a race director (and an avid trail runner), to be able to hold Happy Trails in person instead of virtually. I think I speak for most runners when I say, “we just want to be outside and on the trail around other runners.” To ensure a safe event that allows for social distancing, the City of Dripping Springs requires that I communicate to race participants, volunteers, and spectator, the following:
Face coverings are required at the Happy Trails Race for participants, volunteers, race staff, and spectators while attending the event.
The City of Dripping Springs has also asked that ample space be provided to allow for socially distancing at packet pickup and at the start/finish line.
-- Stay at home if you feel sick or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
-- If, on race morning, you have a fever, please stay home and contact the race director.
-- Stay at least 6' away for others
-- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
-- Do not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth.
-- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Participants will wait in line, to pick up their bib number and participant shirts, and allow for 6’ between themselves and the next participant.
This year’s race will be chipped timed. Bib numbers will be chipped. The race will have 2 waves of runners. Participants in each wave will be asked to start in small groups of 10 at a time to allow for ample spacing between runners on the course.
Wave 1 - 10K Runners
Wave 2- 5k Runners
The race is a cup-less race. We highly encourage runners to bring their own nutrition and water. Runners, who want water on the course, will need to bring their own hydration device. Masked and gloved volunteers at the aid station will fill your hydration device following a touch less protocol. Runners will hold their bottle and the volunteer will push the button on the water jug to help you fill your bottle. This will help reduce contact between runners and volunteers.
Normally, we have fresh, hot pancakes and coffee waiting for you at the finish line. Due to COVID-19 requirements, we are unable to serve pancakes and coffee at the finish. In true “pivot and make the best of it”-style, runners will receive an Untapped Maple Waffle and a stick of Mount Hagen Instant Coffee along with the custom finisher’s pint glass.
I want to thank the City of Dripping Springs for allowing us to continue with the race “in-person.” The trail community is one of the few communities who have been able to continue with racing, albeit the races look a little different with the requirement of face coverings. Fortunately, trail racers have been wearing face coverings in the form of Buffs/neck-gaiters before COVID-19. Your support is appreciated and I look forward to seeing everyone at the start line!!
Should you have any specific questions regarding the changes to the race due to COVID-19 requirements. Please, do not hesitate to call the race director 512-585-5034.
