Join us for 2025 and our 10th year!
SOUP IN THE SNOW has been held on the 1st Saturday of every February since 2016. Put on by Jeremy Smith, Jeff Fullmer, and the Idaho Falls Trail Runners!
This event is located in beautiful South-East Idaho, where loco-local trail runners will sprint, trudge, crawl, & scamper their way through the woods & rivers in a beautiful snowy wilderness...
Pot-luck meal, runner-to-runner bonding, & snowball fights likely to follow our events. All abilities welcome!
No prizes for first...No free tee-shirts…No aid stations... BUT NO ENTRY FEE so you get what you pay for!

Details:
Snowy trails, a mountain lake, moose, and a steaming helping of hot soup and all the trimmings!
Date/Time: February 1st, 8:30am
Place: Palisades Creek Trailhead (Past Swan Valley, Idaho)
Race Course:
From the line we stamp out in the parking lot, run to Lower Palisades Lake (and back). Approximately 4.3 miles each way including 1000-ish feet of snowy elevation gain. You are unlikely to finish faster than 1.5-2 hours, so be prepared for a challenging run. This is not the easy-going summer trail you may be familiar with.
There are no guaranteed aid stations or ‘Yeti’ on the course...
POST-RACE POTLUCK LUNCH
While registration is COMPLETELY FREE, you still must register to run on ultrasignup.com. After registering, please check out our Facebook page “Idaho Falls Trail Runners” for updates. Participants are asked to commit to bring either a soup, bread, dessert, or side dish to share.
Runners: When you register, please sign up for a food item! In addition to food, we will also coordinate other needs such as folding tables, generators, etc. Generators will be on hand to warm up crock pots of soup/chili.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation: As trailhead parking is limited, participants are encouraged to carpool. Expected return time is 1:00-2:00pm
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING their own utensils (bowl, mug, spoon, etc).
This is not a 'race' as much as it is a glorified group run.
There is an outhouse at the trailhead but no near the parkinglot, please bring your own toilet paper as it often runs out!
Runners should also bring their own camp-chairs for use at the finish line.
