COVID-19 Event Changes
Welcome to the 2021 Grand Viduta Stage Race! This race IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!! There will be many safety measures put into place and the State Park is excited to host all of us. Here is a short blog on how we have safely and successfully put on races in the second half of 2020: https://runninglane.com/blog/f/a-real-life-race-series-during-a-pandemic-here’s-how
Welcome to the greatest off-road challenge in the South. This is an event that welcomes every level of participant and is sure to challenge anyone who comes to the starting line. The race winds through some of the best single track trail in the Southeast. The course includes a healthy dose of flat runnable sections along with big technical climbs, bluff views, waterfalls and more.
New in 2021 is the "3 Day Mini Stage Race" which will feature shorter distance options (Friday: 6 miles, Saturday: 7.2 miles, Sunday: 5.3 miles) for those not yet ready for the 43 Mile Grand Viduta Stage Race.
Course aid will be provided at many aid stations, and family entertainment will be provided daily at the start/finish paddock. Post-race food/gatherings each day.
Announcements will be made on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/RunningLaneEvents)
Each Runner Receives chip timing, finisher medal, event shirt, full aid station support, and hot post race meals after each stage
The race is capped at 200 runners. **IT WILL SELL OUT**
Early registration ends February 28th.
**THERE WILL NOT BE A SHUTTLE FOR FRIDAY'S STAGE THIS YEAR AS WE ENFORCE SOCIAL DISTANCING. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY and know it's a 1.1 mile hike to the start if the start/finish lot is full. Strava walking directions: https://www.strava.com/routes/2743186802405906734 **
The best backup option would be to have a friend or family member drop you off at the Land Trust Parking lot on Bankhead.
Parking is VERY limited on Friday. Carpooling will be required for anyone entering the Land Trust parking lot at the trailhead. We will have a FREE race shuttle from the Oak Park Community Center (Oakwood Avenue NE, Huntsville AL 35801). A small amount of additional parking is available at Aid Station 2 (34.74812, -86.53011).
Shirts, Awards, Weather & Cutoffs
The race shirt will be a short sleeve tri-blend shirt.
Age groups will be: 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+ for the Full Grand Viduta Stage Race. Finisher plaques & Fleet Feet Huntsville gift cards will be awarded to the Full Stage Race AG winners. For the Mini Stage Race we will have same AG categories however only Fleet Feet Huntsville gift cards will be awarded. For the 25K there won't be AG awards because that particular event is much smaller. ALL finishers regardless of the race they are in will get a finisher medal.
In the event of severe weather we will delay the start as necessary to avoid lightening. If severe weather threatens the entire day and does not appear to let up, we may be forced to cancel.
Average Temperatures on race day: High 76F, Low 53F
There will be no cutoffs in the Mini Viduta. For the Full Viduta (Fri: 13 miles, Saturday: 16 miles, Sunday: 14 miles) the cutoff will work out to be 17:00 minute miles. Our goal is to get more and more people into this awesome sport that is trail running, no matter what your experience level is. However, we would suggest that if you are not able to maintain ~16 minute miles for 13-16 miles, that you please consider doing the Mini.
