About the Race
This course is extremely challenging. The course starts at the Kirkwood Lodge and runs on pavement for around 0.2 miles leading to a single track trail, then from there it is all singletrack going up. If you like the High Sierra and are into an incredible challenge, please come and play on Thunder Mountain. You will absolutely love this new event.

6:50 AM: Runner check-in. (Red Cliffs Day Lodge will be open for the runners from 6:30 AM.)
7:50 AM. Trail briefing (behind the Red Cliffs Day Lodge.)
8:00 AM: Race start for all distances.
Early runner check in Friday, 4:00 – 7:00 PM.
Race starts at Red Cliffs next to Kirkwood Lodge at 7800 feet in elevation, and some of the distances will go up to about 9500 feet. Overall time limit: 36 Hours.
50K, 26.2 mile, 18.8 mile – Yellow bibs
13.1 mile – Red bibs
10K and 5K – Black bibs
50K and Trail Marathon runners: Drop bags will be picked up Race Morning at the Kirkwood Lodge during Runner Check in. Then taken to both aid stations to be picked up prior to race and returned after the race to the Red Cliffs Day Lodge.
5k Course: Follow Orange Ribbons. It is out & back. 1 water stop.
10k Course: Follow Orange Ribbons. It is out & back to the aid station at the Thunder Mtn TH.
13 Mile Course: Follow Orange Ribbons to Thunder Mtn TH aid station Mile 3.3. Then Follow Pink Ribbons up to your designated turnaround location at mile 6.5. GREEN Ribbons will be your turnaround mark at a Trail Intersection. Then you will reverse the entire course you just ran. Follow Pink Ribbons down to the Thunder Mtn aid station TH Mile 9.7. Then Follow Orange Ribbons 3.3 miles back to Finish.
18.8 Mile Course: Follow Orange Ribbons to Thunder Mtn aid station Mile 3.3. Then Follow Pink Ribbons up & over Thunder Mtn Trail to the Horse Canyon Trail Mile 9.7. Then Follow Yellow Ribbons Turning Right down onto the Horse Canyon Trail, running down to the Horse Canyon aid station Mile 11. Turnaround at aid station following Yellow Ribbons running up Horse Canyon Trail 3.1 miles to Mile 14.6. Turn Left Following Pink Ribbons again back onto the Thunder Mtn Trail Running up & over Thunder Mtn. At Mile 17.1 turn Right at Orange Ribbons running EAST following Orange Ribbons to the Finish.
26 Miler Course: Follow Orange Ribbons to Thunder Mtn aid station Mile 3.3. Turn around at aid station now following Pink Ribbons up & over Thunder Mtn to the Horse Canyon Trail Mile 9.7. Turn Right now following Yellow Ribbons down to the Horse Canyon Trail aid station Mile 11. Turn around at Horse Canyon aid station Following Yellow Ribbons, then run EAST up the Horse Canyon Trail 5.3 miles to your designated turnaround at Mile 16.3. Red Ribbons will indicate where to turnaround. Turnaround at Red Ribbons run down 2.2 miles to the Thunder Mtn Trail at 18.5 miles. Turn Right at Pink Ribbons running up & over Thunder Mtn down to the Thunder Mtn aid station Mile 23.1. Then Follow Orange Ribbons 3.3 miles to Finish.
50K Course: Follow Orange Ribbons to Thunder Mtn TH aid station Mile 3.3. Turnaround Following Pink Ribbons up & over Thunder Mtn to the Horse Canyon Trail Mile 9.7. Turn Right onto the Horse Canyon Trail following Yellow Ribbons for 3.1 miles running down to the Horse Canyon aid station. Turnaround at aid station running the out & back section returning to the Horse Canyon aid station. Follow Yellow Ribbons for 5.3 miles running up East to designated turnaround location marked with Red Ribbons at Mile 16.3. Runners run back down Following Yellow Ribbons to the Horse Canyon aid station Mile 21.6. Turnaround at aid station Following Yellow Ribbons for 3.1 miles running up EAST to the Thunder Mtn Trail Mile 24.7. Turn Left onto the Thunder Mtn Trail now following Pink Ribbons up & over Thunder Mtn down to the Thunder Mtn TH aid station Mile 29.3. Runners turnaround Following Orange Ribbons for 3.3 miles directly back to the Finish.

50K time limit 12 hours (8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.)
26.2 Trail Marathon time limit 10 hours.
All runners receive a medal for finishing the race.

Directions and Parking
Directions leaving the the Start and Finish for the event:
Attention Crews – be very careful driving on Hwy 88. If you need to walk across Hwy 88 for any reason, use extreme Caution.
To the first aid station. Thunder Mtn Trail Head aid station.
Turn Left West onto Hwy 88. Drive less then one mile the Thunder Mtn Trail Head aid station will be on your Left located in a dirt parking lot.
To the second aid station. Horse Canyon Trail Head aid station. Leaving the first aid station to the second aid station.Bathrooms along the course for crews.
There is a bathroom on the right between the two aid stations located in the campgrounds.
There are Bathrooms in the Silver Lake campground just a little West passed the second aid station on the Right – the Horse Canyon Trail Head aid station. Additional bathrooms out on the course.
Silver Lake Campground is just West on the Right passed the Horse Canyon aid station.
Kit Carson Lodge is on the Left just West of the Horse Canyon aid station just before Silver Lake on your Left.
Turn Left West onto Hwy 88. Drive for a few minutes, around one mile, the Horse Canyon Trail Head aid station will be on your Left. There is a little dirt parking lot. Parking is very limited. There is additional parking a little beyond the aid station on both sides of 88. The aid station is before Silver Lake campground, the Kit Carson Lodge, and Silver Lake.

For the runners out on the course, once gaining some elevation up on Thunder Mtn, cell phone service is good in lots of locations.
