About the Race
The Gritty Leakes Half and Full Marathon, hosted by Race Team RVA Running Club, will be held on November 5, 2022 at the Leakes Mill Park in Goochland, VA.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This Gritty run begins with a short stretch on a gravel access road to help spread everyone out before hitting the singletrack at the WTF trailhead. From there the course winds and loops and makes use of all the well groomed, often root covered singletrack trails within the park. Sections of long climbs and eternal descents are broken up by short and steep undulating sections and stretches of flat running. Half Marathoners do the course once, Marathoners will repeat it all one more time to earn their unique Finisher’s Awards.
AIDE STATIONS
There will be two main aide stations offering water, Tailwind Nutrition, and soda, as well as stocked with both cold and hot food. Aide will be available at the Start/Finish as well as at the beginning of the Fortune’s Loop. This aide station is accessible to spectators by a short walk down the fire road. Please remind your friends and family to comply with volunteer instructions at this aide station to avoid blocking runner’s access to the trail and aide.
START/FINISH
Both races will start and finish from the main parking lot. This will also serve as the main hub of the race. The Main aid station will be located here where you can see your runner. This will be a great area for your friends and family to hang out. There is a playground for the younger kids. We’ll have music playing, a cornhole set up, and other fun events going on to keep you entertained while spectators cheer. There are also indoor restrooms located in this area.
VOLUNTEER
Anyone wanting to volunteer please contact us at raceteamrva@gmail.com and we will work with you to figure out how you can best help make this race experience even better for the runners. Volunteers donating at least 4 hours of time will earn 20% the next season’s training team.
FINISHERS AWARDS
All Finishers of both distances will earn a keepsake medal and a Finisher’s tee shirt. Marathon Finishers will also earn a special Award for mastering this difficult course.

distance.
REGISTRATION FEES
For our inaugural year with the Gritty Leakes, early bird registration for everyone is $70 for the Half Marathon and $80 for the Full Marathon. After June 1, the rates increase to $80 and $90 respectively with the final rate increase on 10/1/2022 to $90 and $100. We encourage you to register as soon as possible as this helps us to better plan for the race.
Last year's runners who started the race will receive a discount which will be mailed to participants in April 2022.
Registration for this event will be limited to 150 runners total.
There are NO REFUNDS for this race.
COVID
In the event of another major COVID breakout, this race will follow the most recent CDC guidelines regarding mask use, wave starts, spectator limits. Please check our website at www.raceteamrva.com for any updates prior to race day should that occur.
AGE REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 14 years old day of race for the Half Marathon, with parent/guardian permission, and at least 18 years old day of the race to participate in the Full Marathon.
NO PETS allowed on the course race day.
9/30/2022 Deadline for Shirt order: SHIRTS for all: If you registered before September 30, 2022, you will be guaranteed a race shirt (for all) in the size as registered. We cannot guarantee your size if you register after September 30. Although we order a few extras, sizes after registration are not guaranteed.
