Trail of Fears

pleasant plains extended jackson, tn

Jackson, TN Variable Distance

This Event Took Place Sat. Dec 18, 2021

What is the Trail of Fears?

The Trail of Fears is a race that starts at 7am. Runners will have 1 hour to complete the 4.3 mile trail loop. If you don’t finish the loop in less than 1 hour then you are eliminated. Pretty easy, huh!?!? Well, the race resumes at 8am with those that haven’t been eliminated. If a runner doesn’t answer the bell at the top of the hour when the race resumes then he or she will be eliminated as well. The race will continue every hour until one runner remains. The race will start in the early light and likely finish under the moon with a crowd of coyotes and exhausted, eliminated runners around. (If a runner finishes the loop in 40 min then he/she has 20 min to sit around, rest, refuel until race starts back at the top of the next hour. If another runner comes in at 59 minutes then that runner has less than a minute before it restarts.

Covid-19 Protocols

This is our guidelines from last year. This will be evolving before race date and hopefully we can eliminate most of these protocols on race day depending on the current spread of Covid and the Delta variant.

We are committed to following both federal, state, and municipal COVID-19 guidelines.

IF YOU ARE SICK, STAY HOME! Avoid the risk of infecting others. This applies to you, your support crew and your spectators. If you, or someone who you have been in close contact with, have tested positive or experiencing symptoms for COVID-19 in the past few weeks, you must stay home and contact your local health authority to confirm the protocols you must follow.

Maintain physical distancing of at least 6-feet with volunteers, race organizers, other runners and their support crews during race weekend. When passing other runners, do your best to give them a wide berth, a verbal heads up, and cover your face in passing. It might be tricky, but please try your best.

If physical distancing of 6-feet is not possible, please properly wear a face mask/covering. You will be required to wear it before, and at the start of your race and when finishing every loop at the start/finish/race headquarters as you wait. Pack an extra face mask in your post-race bag so you have a  backup in case yours gets damaged or soiled.

To minimize contact with volunteers, we have eliminated the race supported aide stations this year. Minimal fluids and calories will be available.  Each participant in ALL races will be responsible for their own aide station/hydration system etc. Ask someone in your bubble to set up a table (or in your chair or with your bag/space)  There will be designated areas along the course near the start where you choose to set up your gear/hydration/etc.

Later in the race when support crews are allowed they should have a mask on at all times when at the race headquarters (start/finish). Please make sure they bring their own masks, hand sanitizer, or any other Personal Protective Equipment as required.

Please follow all of the above rules, and ask your support crew to do the same.
