The race
Thank you for your interest in the Pigeon River Country Half Marathon! This race is a special and unique race that will not disappoint. This race starts and finishes overlooking the picturesque Pigeon River. You will start with a nice little uphill run for approx. 0.5 miles. The rest of the course is somewhat of a surprise...The details are as follows: 700 foot ascent and 700 foot descent. Just letting you know in advance, much of the 700 foot descent comes towards the end of the race. You will be running on a well traveled dirt road with possible vehicular access throughout. This is a course that we have loved and are super stoked to be able to host a race on.
Time Limit
Whats the time limit? Our races do not have time limits. We will be out there until the last person finishes! We ask that you be able to complete the half marathon under your own power, and try your best to finish in under 5 hours. This works out to be about 2.5 miles per hour. This is to compensate for the difficulty of the course and the inclusiveness of ALL runners. We will have someone following up the last runner, so you also have no fears of finishing last!
Aid stations
We will have both manned and unmanned water stations. There will be plenty of fluids throughout the course(every 2-3 miles), but please make sure that you are prepared to self aid if needed, because there are miles between each aid station.
Capacity
We are currently capping registration at 100 to limit parking congestion, and to preserve the nature of this race
Age limit
This race is open for runners 14 and older
Winners
We will be providing the winners of each group with special, locally handmade items
Swag
ALL finishers will receive a finishers medal, race shirt and other items on race day.

Course
The course is 95%+ of hard packed gravel, sand and dirt, with the starting line and the backwoods Pigeon River crossing being paved. The first half mile is uphill on pavement, so its a great way to start! the next 6ish miles will be on hard packed gravel/dirt. As you cross the Pigeon River, you will go up another hill, which is paved, then once at the top of the hill, the road switches back to dirt, and will remain dirt until the finish line.
