Cancelled Event
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
In mid January, a landslide began dropping trees and buckling the pavement on Bull Creek Rd. This is the east-west road through Humboldt Redwoods State Park. It is estimated the slide is half a mile wide and stretches 500 ft up the mountainside. As of January 20, the slide was still moving and unsafe for assessment to begin. Our race course is part of the 2/3 of the state park that now cannot be accessed without an hours-long detour. Here's a news article with photos: https://kymkemp.com/2023/01/18/a-fluid-situation-active-slide-continues-to-cause-problems-on-bull-creek-road/
I reached out to the park and was told that from what they have seen, the road will not be repaired in time for our June event. Special event permits will not be issued until the road has been fully reopened. With that news, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our 2023 event today so you can adjust your summer racing plans.
Description
We love Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Over the last decade, we've covered all 100+ miles of trails in this magnificent and diverse state park, quickly learning where the best spots are hiding. Under the guidance of the Six Rivers Running Club, we are proud to present the 9th year of Grasshopper Peak Redwoods Run. The routes we've chosen are among our favorites. Won't you join us?
Choose from either the 30K or 10.5 mile distances. Both courses climb up Grasshopper Peak and gently descend to finish in a grove of massive old growth Redwood trees in the Bull Creek drainage.
Online registration closes at 11:59pm on May 31st, there will be no in person registration. T-shirts guaranteed if registered by May 1.
