Course Description
"No one seems really sure about the source of the Devils Racetrack name, except that it would be a hell of a place to race."
-Cumberlandtrail.org
Ultranaut Running presents the Devil's Racetrack Trail 20 Miler and 10 Miler! These are point-to-point race runs on the Eagle Bluff section of the Justin P. Wilson Cumberland Trail State Scenic Trail State Park. The race begins at the Tank Springs Trailhead nearby downtown Lafollette, TN. You quickly climbing 1000' feet to the ridgetop and follows the rocky spine of Cumberland Mountain with scenic views of the city of Lafollette below and technical sections of trail. Eventually reaching the the Devil's Racetrack section and bombing down into the valley below. The 10 Mile race will continue on to Cove Lake State Park but the 20 Mile race has the climb up Cross Mountain, the highest elevation point on the Cumberland Trail. After reaching the top, runners will bomb down the mountain on their way to the finish at Cove Lake State Park.
Along the way, runners will pass a wonderland of rock formations, massive sandstone cliffs, a stone arch, a series of cascading waterfalls, and numerous rocky lookouts with stunning views of the Powell River Valley and the Cumberland Mountain range. The course is mostly single track wooded trails, boasting wildflowers, mountain laurel, rhododendron and blueberry bushes. For all it's stunning beauty though it packs a punch. The challenging course offers a multitude of challenging climbs, steep descents and technical rocky footing. Total elevation gain for the 20 miler over 5,300' and over 2,800' for the 10 miler.
